Chapter 10 - The Strong One

The roar echoed again.

Louder.

Closer.

The forest went silent.

Even the wind stopped.

Ray swallowed. "…That's definitely not normal."

Rin nodded. "Stay together."

Leo didn't speak.

He was listening.

Not just to the sound—

But to the flow around it.

"…It's coming," he said.

A heavy presence moved through the trees.

Branches snapped.

Footsteps… slow, but powerful.

Then—

It appeared.

A massive beast stepped out.

Twice the size of the others.

Dark fur. Sharp fangs. Eyes glowing with a deeper light.

Pressure filled the air.

Ray stepped back. "No way… this isn't part of the test."

Rin raised her hand. Mana gathered instantly. "…Doesn't matter. We deal with it."

Leo's eyes narrowed.

"…Stronger core. Faster reaction. Higher output."

He was already analyzing.

The beast moved.

Fast.

Faster than before.

It vanished from sight—

Then appeared in front of Ray.

"Move!" Rin shouted.

Ray reacted, wind bursting around him.

He barely dodged.

The ground cracked where the beast struck.

"…Too fast!" Ray said.

Rin attacked.

Multiple light blades shot forward.

Clean.

Sharp.

The beast dodged all of them.

Not just speed—

It was reading her attacks.

"…It's adapting," Rin said.

Leo stepped forward.

"…Then we change the pattern."

Rin glanced at him.

"…Say it clearly."

Leo looked at both of them.

"Ray, force it to move."

"Rin, don't aim directly."

A short pause.

"…I'll handle the timing."

No hesitation.

Rin nodded. "…Fine."

Ray grinned slightly. "Let's try it."

The beast charged again.

This time—

Ray moved first.

Wind exploded outward, not as an attack—

But to control space.

The beast shifted direction.

Exactly as Leo expected.

"…Now," Leo said.

Rin's attack came—

Not at the beast—

But slightly off.

The beast dodged—

Right into the adjusted path.

For a split second—

It lost balance.

Leo stepped in.

Raised his hand.

No big spell.

No flashy attack.

Just—

A precise impact on the flow.

The beast's movement broke.

Completely.

"…Finish it," Leo said.

Rin didn't hesitate.

Her strongest attack formed instantly.

Clean. Focused. Perfect.

It struck.

Direct hit.

The beast roared—

Then collapsed.

Silence.

Heavy breathing filled the air.

Ray dropped to the ground. "…That thing was insane."

Rin lowered her hand slowly.

Her eyes stayed on Leo.

"…You controlled the entire fight."

Leo looked at the beast.

"…No."

A small pause.

"…I just removed its advantage."

Rin exhaled quietly.

"…That's the same thing."

Footsteps approached.

The instructor appeared.

His gaze moved from the beast—

To the three of them.

"…This was not part of the test," he said.

Ray laughed weakly. "Yeah, we figured."

The instructor looked at Leo.

"…You led this."

Leo didn't answer.

Silence was enough.

The instructor nodded slightly.

"…All three of you passed."

Ray smiled. "Good to hear."

But Rin didn't react.

Her eyes were still on Leo.

Not with arrogance.

Not with rivalry.

Something deeper.

"…Next time," she said quietly, "I'll keep up without your help."

Leo looked at her.

"…Then improve faster."

Rin almost smiled.

"…I will."

The forest returned to silence.

But something had changed again.

Not just strength.

Not just teamwork.

They were evolving.

And this was only the beginning.

To be continued…
