Chapter 1 - So Much Water

"Ugh, where the hell am I?" A man said as they rubbed their head, their head throbbing as though someone had just grabbed their head and slammed a hammer into their skull. He rubbed his head, but stopped when water splashed onto his face, some slipping into his nose.

"Cough* Cough* Cough*" the man coughed as they accidentally swallowed the water. He wiped his face, but when he raised his hand, he felt it wet. Curious, he looked to his side and could only go wide-eyed at what he saw.

As far as his eyes could see was nothing but water. A blue desert was all he could see for miles upon miles. There was nothing but the color blue before him.

He stared for a second before chuckling to himself. The chuckle turned into a laugh.

"Ha ha ha ha, man, this is a strange dream," the man said as he rested his wet hand on his face, covering his eyes from the glare of the sun. He felt the drops of water slide down his cheeks and onto his ears. He even tasted the water that slid on his lips, making him lick it unconsciously.

"Salty," the man said as he let his hand fall back to his side.

"I wonder what my brain is trying to tell me from this dream," the man said as he sat up and finally looked around. He was sitting on top of something metal and big. Its metal felt strong underneath his body, yet it should have sunk. Maybe? The man wasn't well-versed in physics. All he knew were the basics and surface-level events. Around him was endless water, and from the taste, it was salt water.

"Either I am in a big bowl filled with salt water, or I am in the middle of the ocean. But then again, isn't the ocean just a big bowl of salt water?" The man said as he rested his hand on his chin and mused. His eyes lowered as he stared at his clothing. The man stood up, water dripping from his wet clothes, as he stared at his body.

A white lab coat with a name tag covered his body; it looked quite nice, but it had some holes and red stains on its surface. Under the coat was just a neat white shirt and white pants. He even had a pair of white shoes.

"God, thankfully, I don't have a burger in hand," the man said to himself as he chuckled.

"Growl*" a growling noise echoed from his stomach as he clutched it. To say the pain he felt was mild would be a sin to say. His stomach felt like a pack of cougars was clawing at his insides, trying to break free no matter the cost. That wasn't the worst part, another shot of pain erupted where his kidneys were. Causing the man to fall over and groan, his hands clutching with ferocity.

"Okay, so this dream is fucked up," the man said as he groaned, beads of sweat dripping off his forehead, "so from what I am getting from this dream is that I might have a fear of being lost at sea. That or I should wake up soon and eat something."

A smile formed on his lips, before it was wiped off as another wave of pain erupted from his stomach. He groaned as he fell to his side and curled up, hands still wrapped around his belly. His eyes closed shut as he tried to shut his mind in some way.

"Hey, brain. As much as I love you giving me such awesome dreams and whatnot, I would like it if you woke me up," the man said as he groaned once again. His eyes slowly opened up, and sadly, he was not in his comfortable room. He was still in the middle of the ocean, floating on a hunk of metal.

"Maybe if I hurt myself," the man said as he used the nail on his thumb to jab at his index finger. But nothing happened, well, except for the pain as he accidentally cut his finger.

"Too much force," the man said as he put his cut finger in his mouth. The taste of metal tinged his tongue as he just stared. As he stared for a few seconds, a sigh escaped his lips as he then tried to sit up. Though the pain in his stomach and kidney shot through him, he still tried and succeeded.

"Wow, so either my mind is so big that I can simulate an exact feeling of pain," the man said before he punched himself in the kidney. The man clutched over and groaned. The man took some breaths before calming down from his self-inflicted pain, "or this is real life, and I just made a horrible life choice by punching my kidney."

He stood up once again, pain still shooting through his body, and stared out once again. His eyes scanned the surface of the ocean to find any sort of clue as to how he got here. But no matter where he looked, he saw nothing but the blue ocean. Still, he kept looking, no matter how dumb it was. He kept looking and looking.

As he looked around, he saw nothing but the blue ocean and the glare from the sun bouncing off its surface. He even looked at the sun for some seconds before backing off and looking straight down. Only then did he notice two things next to his feet.

The first obvious thing was a pair of black square glasses that had some cracks on their glass parts, "What is that part called again? Lens? I think they are called lenses."

The man held them high as he stared at the lens. His eyes were glaring at its glassy surface as though it was hiding a truth from him. But no matter where he looked, there was nothing that seemed of significance. They just seem to be a pair of ordinary glasses. He looked back down at his feet, to the spot where he found the glasses.

Once again, he was shocked as he stared at his reflection on the wet metal surface. Maybe it was because the metal was covered in water and distorted the reflection, but when he stared at it, it stared back at him. He saw a face he did not recognize.

The face in the reflection had a sunken, pale appearance, with brown-hazed eyes and gray hair. Or at least it seemed gray, the glare of the sun was making it hard for him to see. The man brought his hand up to his hair and combed it. A feeling of dread filled his heart as his hair felt like he was touching a straw. Not as in the plastic straws, but the grain. It felt so weak and snapable, as if the slightest amount of force could easily snap it in half.

The man stopped staring at his reflection as he rubbed his pained eyes that had suffered the wrath of the sun. When he stopped rubbing his eyes, his heart dropped as his vision suddenly became hazy. It was as though someone just decided to spray his eyes and leave him as that. It was so fuzzy and cloudy that it was hard to even focus.

Then his body felt weak, his legs began shaking and his breathing became ragged. He tried his best to stand tall, but his body gave in to the rush of weakness as he soon fell onto his back.

This feeling of weakness was accompanied by aches and sores. His muscles cramped and his lips felt parched. Even his throat that accidentally drank seawater felt dry. But the worst was far from over as a sudden dizzy feeling crept into his mind. His thoughts became jumbled and muddy. It felt so hard to think and each time he tried, he felt so chained.

"What the hell?" the man voiced out, his youthful voice now sounding as though he had just aged fifty years in a single second. He could feel the beat of his heart slow down and a numbing feeling crawling over his body.

"Am I dying?" The man voiced out as he stared at the blue sky, the sun stabbing at his eyes. It's heat, once a calm feeling, now felt like someone just dumped a bucket of molten metal onto his skin and left him like that.

"This really isn't a dream," the man voiced out as he tried to bring his hand that clutched the glasses. He felt his body scream at him as it plunged daggers made of aches throughout his arm. But still, the man weakly raised his arm up. His arm wobbled as he finally raised the glasses above him.

A feeling knawed at his heart as he stared at the pair of glasses. Something told him, whispered to him, to put on the glasses. Something whispered in his heart that if he put them on, all this pain would go away. Though no one actually said anything, and this was all just a feeling. Whether this was a feeling of desperation, the man did not know.

Still, he listened to the feeling. With what little aching strength he had, he flipped the black glasses around and slowly lowered them onto his face. When the glasses touched his face and rested on his nose. He felt nothing.

The pain had gone away.

"Finally!"
