Chapter 2 - Contract Termination, Two-Year Cooling-Off Period

Katherine Dannah herself didn't know how she transmigrated into the book while retaining the weapons, spatial storage, Supernatural Ability, and Spiritual Power that the original body possessed.

But it was fortunate that she kept them, as dealing with that big black bear was just a matter of raising her hand.

If it were truly the original Katherine's skill level, she would probably only have the option of lying on the ground and playing dead.

She used Green Vine to quickly deal with the bear's corpse on the spot. After neatly sorting the bearskin and gallbladder in her spatial storage, she returned to the car with the three men.

At this point, Kathy finally had a moment to size up the three men.

She had to admit, the Original Owner had quite good taste when selecting men.

Not to mention the little panda...so cute, handsome, and possessing a strong Supernatural Ability...the other two men also each had their own distinct characteristics.

Crimson, who had been knocked unconscious by the black bear outside, whose true form was a turtle-dragon, was currently sprawled in the car with his black clothes torn and hair disheveled. Many of his dark cyan scales were missing, faintly visible beneath the shredded fabric, and his sharp jawline was stained with blood.

The other driver had short, ink-blue hair, fair and delicate skin, and wore gold-rimmed glasses. His dress shirt sleeves were rolled up to his forearms, showing no signs of beast transformation.

Moreover, just like the little panda, the two of them also had strange tattoos glowing with a dim red light on their necks.

Additionally, each of their Supernatural Ability levels was at least Level 6.

In this book, the maximum level for a Supernatural Ability was set at Level 20, which was difficult to reach unless one possessed exceptionally prodigious talent.

Kathy raised her hand and discovered that her Wood Element Ability had also been suppressed to around Level 15.

Pale green light spots spread from her palm, quickly scattering over the bodies of the three men.

Soon, the first to wake up was the driver.

When he opened his eyes, Kathy noticed his eyes were also ink-blue, calm and peaceful yet unfathomably deep, as if a predator lurking in the deep sea resided in his gaze.

He pushed the glasses on his nose bridge with his index finger, his gaze sweeping over the visible situation, as well as the large patches of bloodstains on the scorched earth outside the car. His expression darkened slightly:

"What happened?"

At this moment, Kathy, the only one fully conscious, replied without any change in complexion or breath:

"A powerful expert passed by just now and saved us casually."

"And just happened to have a Wood Element Ability? And was kind enough to expend his own Supernatural Ability to heal us?"

The driver frowned, his eyes filled with scrutiny.

"Yes," Kathy nodded heavily. "Otherwise, with my Spiritual Power only at Level 1, and being severely injured, I wouldn't have been able to save you guys either."

The driver remained silent, the reflection on his lenses catching the white light from outside, concealing all the thoughts in his eyes.

Being new here, Kathy didn't want to cause too much of a stir, so she could only grit her teeth and endure his scrutiny.

It wasn't entirely her fault that her lying skills were poor.

In her world, resources were scarce, zombies rampaged, human lives were precarious, and people constantly schemed against, plundered from, and murdered one another.

Most people preferred to face danger alone rather than travel with companions.

After becoming a lone wanderer, she hadn't had a proper conversation with anyone for three full years.

Fortunately, at this moment, the little panda and Crimson gradually recovered, interrupting the strange atmosphere between her and the driver.

Especially the little panda, who woke up refreshed and whose first action was to urge the driver to save the others:

"...Hurry up and go! Find an uninhabited place first! When Crimson left just now, his Spiritual Power was already severely unstable. If we don't handle it now, it will be too late!"

After shouting, he saw the driver, whose eyes were obscured by the reflection on his lenses, hadn't moved, and the corner of his thin lips was curved into a half-smile as he assessed Kathy sitting in the back seat. The entire panda bristled:

"Quinlan! Are you deaf?!"

Ah, Quinlan.

Kathy glanced in surprise at the driver, who exuded the air of a cultured beast, and finally understood what kind of person he was.

One of the Original Owner's Beast Husbands, possessing extremely high intelligence, a detached and cold personality, and whose beast form was—an octopus.

The kind with eight tentacles.

The female master originally assigned to him had already met him, but they hadn't managed to form a contract yet.

Given his intelligence, he wouldn't have been tricked by the Original Owner's petty schemes.

But his female master was deceived by the Original Owner and insisted he come to the Original Owner's place to try some freshly squeezed juice...

Therefore, among the Beast Husbands, Quinlan was the one who most detested the Original Owner, and also the one who employed the most varied methods when torturing the Original Owner in the basement.

Especially since he had eight tentacles...

Towards such a cold-blooded and highly intelligent creature, Kathy always kept her distance.

She steadied herself, ignoring the man's intimidating gaze, and proactively reminded the little panda:

"Crimson's injuries and Spiritual Power instability are both healed."

The little panda instantly froze.

The two black airplane ears on his head perked up. He lowered his head and carefully examined Crimson from head to toe, then couldn't help but exclaim:

"Oh my god! This passing expert is too kind! I was just thinking we'd have to pay a huge price and risk going back to that camp to find someone with a Healing Supernatural Ability to treat Crimson's injuries!"

Kathy raised an eyebrow in surprise:

"Can Spiritual Power riots and contamination both be treated with a Healing Supernatural Ability?"

The little panda glared at her unceremoniously and said coldly:

"You don't need to ask such pointless questions just to fill the silence. This time we absolutely won't..."

"Everyone lives in the uncontaminated Upper City District; they are only driven out if they make a mistake. Before I married you three months ago, I had never left the Upper City District."

Kathy interrupted him without any patience, sneering,

"If you keep talking such nonsense, I'll lose my patience, and I might just want to die. When that happens, since the contract won't be dissolved, you all will have to be buried with me~"

As her voice fell, she clearly felt three gazes piercing into her.

The dim red light from the strange tattoos on the necks of the three men became dazzling.

Finally, the little panda gritted his teeth and said sullenly:

"Males, before they have a female master, can pay to have someone with a Healing Supernatural Ability help alleviate a little of the pain from Spiritual Power instability, but only the Wood Element Ability can truly heal. As for Contamination Zones, the higher the level of the Wood Element Ability, the stronger its ability to suppress and purify contamination. It's just that very few people awaken the Wood Element Ability. All recorded Wood Element Ability users are already incorporated by the state to purify and stabilize the Upper City District, heal nobles, and alleviate contamination. Ordinary people needing treatment can only rely on Healers for temporary maintenance."

"Are you satisfied now?"

"Mm-hmm, that's acceptable."

Kathy nodded, completely abandoning the idea of exposing that she not only possessed the Wood Element Ability but also healing powers.

Since the Original Owner was just a weakling who lived off others, she might as well maintain that persona.

As long as she could drive away these deadly Beast Husbands, she could continue being a lone wanderer, using her skills and resources without restraint, unafraid of being targeted by any villain.

Seeing that the little panda was quite likable, she tilted her chin up and asked him:

"Who was the female master originally assigned to you by the Gene Bank?"

Hearing her bring up old matters, the little panda's fur bristled all over. He crouched on the seat using all fours in a completely defensive posture:

"What are you trying to do?!"

"Seeing how cute you are, of course, I want to return you to your original, powerful female master! What, you're not willing?"

Kathy crossed her arms, leaning back in the chair, tapping her cheek lightly with her index finger.

"And you two, stop eavesdropping. If you want to return to your original female masters, just say so. What's the procedure here for dissolving a contract again?"

The little panda's baby-faced expression remained blank, and he said mournfully:

"As long as both parties agree, we just need to register at the official department. Then... there's a contract termination cooling-off period of two years."

"What?"
