Chapter 39 - No Help

Above the gray fog, the Tarot Club members materialized in red light one by one.

From one side of the long mottled table, Miss Justice started the gathering with her usual greeting: "Good afternoon, Mr Fool~"

Her sing-song voice filled the grand palace with nothing but joy, earning a small smile from everyone—apart from the World, who was shrouded in a fog thicker than Mr Fool.

He really doesn't want to be recognized, does he? Audrey thought with a stiff smile then entered her Spectator state to observe the participants.

At the head of the table, the convenor observed each of them through his covered gaze.

"Congratulations, Mr Bard." The Fool smiled.

Derrick had a hint of surprise on his face then lowered his head and replied humbly, "This is all due to your assistance. This is but the beginning."

Audrey looked at the scene before her and immediately said.

"I have a page of the diary of Emperor Roselle with me."

She then turned towards Derrick.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Sun. Have you gotten the formula for Telepathist?"

The Sun, Derrick Berg, was a young man that cared a lot about his reputation. He immediately replied, "I have obtained the Telepathist formula."

"First, recall the formula in your head. Then, grab the pen by your side and instill it with the strong desire to express your thoughts." The Fool casually leaned back in his high chair.

Of course, there still wasn't any ink.

Derrick didn't dare to doubt what The Fool said, so he immediately grabbed the quill that suddenly appeared by his hand.

He followed The Fool's instruction, and as expected, he saw the Telepathist potion formula appear on the brown goatskin parchment before him within seconds.

After looking through it twice, Derrick silently pushed the promised item towards Miss Justice.

Audrey was overjoyed and eager, but she took the parchment gracefully. She glanced at the page, and the words that Mr Fool had translated came into sight.

After looking through the list of ingredients she frowned heavily.

I can't read any of this stuff!

Although it was translated, the ingredients felt completely alien to her.

Suddenly, Audrey heard a light rapping sound. She quickly looked towards the seat of honor at the long bronze table subconsciously.

She was surprised to see Mr. Fool rapping at the edge of the table with his right index finger while he gestured to her with a nod.

What's going on? Audrey was confused as her eyes wore a vacant look.

Just when she was about to ask, the corner of her eyes suddenly saw some changes on the Telepathist formula. There were remarks next to some of the ingredients.

The remarks became the localized names!

She bowed deeply to the seat of honor. "Thank you, Mr. Fool. You're really very knowledgeable."

The Hanged Man Alger didn't know what had happened, but he felt extreme contempt towards what Justice had said.

How could you describe a godlike figure with the word "knowledgeable"?

His existence alone is equivalent to knowledge itself to a certain extent!

Audrey looked at the Telepathist formula a few times and then reined in her gaze unwillingly. She then personally expressed Roselle's diary onto a page.

"You deserve this." She put down her pen and looked towards the fog-engulfed Fool. "In addition to this, I'll give your adorer another 300. Is 300 pounds okay?"

The Fool nodded and said: "A reasonable deal."

"This is my adorer's information." A parchment appeared before Justice.

I wonder if Mr. Fool's adorer is a male or female, and which Sequence he or she is…Hmm, he must be very powerful, at least not weaker than Rear Admiral Hurricane Qilangos… Audrey couldn't stop her thoughts from wandering.

Meanwhile, Amanises held some of the same thoughts.

I wonder what kind of people are Mr Fool's adorers. Surely, they must be of high sequence...

The Fool looked to the side at The Sun and calmly asked, "What compensation would you like?"

Derrick thought seriously and said, "As of now, I don't have anything that I desperately need… I should digest the Bard potion very soon. I shall wait until then to request my compensation. Yes, perhaps to prepare for the corresponding Sequence 8 formula or the necessary ingredients."

The Fool nodded in a simple motion while smiling, He was ready to offer The Sun the compensation he needed whenever he was ready.

Audrey also sharply noticed the word "digest." She weighed her words and asked, "Mr. Sun, are you aware of the 'acting method'?"

Derrick looked at Miss Justice in confusion and answered straightforwardly, "It's nothing strange… The general education classes in the City of Silver teaches the 'acting method.'"

The "acting method" is taught in general education classes… Audrey stole a glance at The Hanged Man and realized that he was looking back at her. The two of them suddenly fell silent.

Then they both switched their gaze towards Death, who was not present when The Fool gave His knowledge regarding the acting method.

She looked back at them in confusion. "I am also aware of the acting method."

Justice and The Hanged Man looked back at each other seemingly sharing the same thought. We have been ripped...

No—Mr Fool would never scam us! In fact the real shameless scammers are the Churches! They are gatekeeping the acting method from us! The Hanged Man Alger, exclaimed in his heart.

So the official beyonders aren't taught the acting method? Was I lucky to be spoon fed such information from the get-go?

Amanises silently appreciated her secret organization. Perhaps it was much better than the officials!

Then, Alger probed, "Mr. Sun, do you talk about any key things to look out for with respect to the 'acting method'?"

"Yes." Derrick nodded without hesitation. "It's clearly stated in our general education classes that the one and only key point for the 'acting method' is to 'Remember that you're only acting.'"

Meanwhile, Mr Fool finished reading the characters inscribed on the parchment, he looked up and signaled for the other members to start the discussion freely.

Alger immediately said, "Mr. Fool, Miss Justice, I received a new piece of information. Rear Admiral Hurricane Qilangos infiltrated Backlund to complete a difficult mission. He might stay for an extended period of time and create an appalling tragedy. Also, I know that this incident involves a very important item, an item that would allow Qilangos to quickly become a High-Sequence Beyonder."

"Quickly become a High-Sequence Beyonder? Does he not fear losing control of himself?" Audrey asked, adopting the posture of a Spectator.

Alger had expected this question. He answered honestly, "That's why the object is important to him."

"Of course, those are simply my deductions. The information I received goes like this: Qilangos believes that once he completes the commission and obtains the object, he will be the equal of Nast, the King of the Five Seas. The Four Pirate Kings would then become the Five Pirate Kings, and the Seven Pirate Admirals would be reduced to six.

"The average person might not be aware of this, but as Beyonders, we should know that Pirate Kings are either High-Sequence Beyonders, or are able to reach the combat strength of a High-Sequence Beyonder with the use of Beyonder boats and mysterious items. For Qilangos to be acknowledged as their equal, he must reach standards that are close to that. That's my deduction."

How strong! For high sequence beyonders to freely roam and torment the seas like that, aren't they afraid of the Church of the Lord of Storms?

I wonder... Does our organization have intel at seas? I mean sure there has to be something like this, but what if a famous pirate is part of us?

From what Mr Hanged Man said, I can deduce that they must be backed by powerful organizations...

Amanises felt reverence for the pirates, from the bottom of her heart she believed that one's life at sea seemed full of interesting adventures.

I don't wish to change my lifestyle, but if I could I'd definitely choose to become one!

"Your deduction is very reasonable. Of course, that could also be a mysterious item that could hold its own against a High-Sequence Beyonder," Justice replied with a smile to Alger's previous statement.

The Hanged Man looked at the fog-enshrouded Fool, pondered over his words, before he looked at Justice and emphasized, "There are two key points in what I said just now, the first being the fact that Qilangos will stay in Backlund for some time. The second is that the incident involves a very important and very mysterious object."

So, Mr. Fool, are you not tempted? There is ample time for you to send your adorer to Backlund… Alger added in his heart but didn't dare say it out loud. All he could do was beat around the bush.

If Mr Fool would not answer, perhaps the reliable Mr World will!

He turned his gaze to the other end of the table, but the one seated there remained as passive as ever, not moving a muscle.

Since neither of them wanted to involve themselves, the final person he could ask for help is Lady Death, however as he turned to face her, she quickly shook her head.

"I'm unable to participate as I'm not in Backlund for now. I also can't send anyone." She answered his silent question in an even voice.

What I could do, is ask the demigods of The Arcanists to help, however how should I explain my source of intel?

I could also ask Mr Azik, but I'm not sure of his power level. The last thing I want to do is send him to be taken out by Qilangos or the Churches.

Amanises really couldn't help.

Maybe Mr Fool would be benevolent enough if pressed for time. You can wait until then.

She silently added in her heart, careful to not have said anything out loud.

Seeing how no one cared enough, Alger swallowed his disappointment and asked about Miss Justice's investigation.

In order to determine the general area he would be at, she asked about his preferences, to which the Hanged Man answered dutifully.

He knows so much about him. Are pirates that easy to be found?

Or perhaps they do not care about it at all?

She wondered about the life of a pirate.

Audrey committed these facts to memory, creating an ample character of Qilangos in her mind.

"Let's hope that the investigation will be a success. It's a pleasure working with you." She smiled after Alger was done.

"My pleasure." All Alger could do was force himself to believe in Miss Justice, who had considerable power in Backlund.

Seeing as how there were no more information dumps, The Fool knocked lightly on the table, catching the attention of everyone.

"Let's end it here for today."

As customary, each member got up from their seats and offered a bow by bending their backs forward. The ladies even lifted up the corners of their skirts.

"By your will."

One by one, they exploded in countless strings of crimson light, returning to their sphere shaped orbs floating around the seat of honor.

The Fool brought the crimson lights corresponding to each member closer to Him, this was also a way to monitor their condition and supervise them.

"Amanises' development is quite rapid. But she's careless."

He audibly made an observation of his fellow transmigrator.

"Well it's normal. You can't expect people new to the world of mysticism to act like experts.

"Although her development is fast, it's still not fast enough."
