Chapter 50 - Calm

"Why are you two hiding?"

I leaned on the closet doorframe, staring at Aoi Todo and Choso, whom I'd just caught two grown men committing a crime.

Then I glanced down.

They had a laptop. Laptop's HDMI port still had a cable attached to it. It looked like somebody tried to rush to the closet.

And they probably did.

The movie paused. Popcorn inside the closet.

"You brought snacks into a closet?" I asked.

Todo crossed his arms proudly. "A true warrior adapts to any battlefield."

"Hiding for your brother should not be that serious..."

I sighed and pointed at the laptop.

"So… movie night?"

Both of them nodded at the same time.

I shrugged. "Mind if I join? Besides, I am the one who interrupted your movie night. So you are on the right."

They immediately shifted, making space like this was a completely normal situation.

I crawled in halfway, then gave up and just dragged the laptop out instead.

"No. We are not watching a movie inside a closet. I have standards."

Todo looked mildly disappointed. "A shame. The atmosphere would have been intense."

"4 People watching a movie on a 16-inch screen? Yeah, no."

Yuji, who had been silently watching this whole thing unfold, just rubbed his face. "Please… just connect it to TV like it used to be…"

We ended up on the floor.

Blankets, popcorn, laptop between us.

A weird, chaotic little group.

Todo sat like he was watching a life-changing documentary. Back straight, arms crossed.

Choso leaned forward slightly, fully focused. He was still new to the technology, but it fascinated him.

Yuji sat beside me, already half-relaxed.

I just grabbed popcorn.

"Is this movie good?" I asked.

"It is," Todo said immediately. "This film contains the essence of human emotion."

"It's a random movie you pirated."

"…Emotion still."

We started watching.

Five minutes in, Todo was already reacting like it was the greatest thing ever made.

"Magnificent…" he muttered.

"Bro, nothing even happened yet," Yuji replied.

Choso, meanwhile, was nodding like he understood something deep.

Yuji leaned over slightly. "…Do you guys even know what's going on?"

"No," I said honestly. "But I'm committed now."

At some point, Todo leaned toward me.

"Kita," he said seriously, "what is your type in movies?"

"Human Centipede," I said jokingly.

"Interesting. Very interesting."

"Do you even know what that is?" I asked

"No. But I shall watch it."

"Please don't," I replied immediately.

Choso added, "I like ones with family bonds."

I blinked.

"…Of course you do."

Yuji just quietly ate popcorn like he was trying not to get dragged into another philosophical discussion.

Halfway through, Todo got too invested.

He stood up.

"…This is peak."

"Sit down," I said immediately.

"I cannot. My soul is resonating."

"How can one react like this to a documentary about penguins... I thought to myself,"

"Sit. Down."

He sat down like a good boy.

Choso clapped once at some random scene.

"This penguin..." He muttured.

Yuji jumped. "What was that for?"

"…Penguin knows there is nothing there, and he could possibly die... Yet he ventures into the unknown."

I buried my face in my hand. "Not the nihilist penguin..."

This is my life now.

By the time the movie ended, we were all just kind of sitting there.

Todo nodded deeply. "A masterpiece."

"It was... good, I think," I replied instantly.

Choso looked conflicted. "It had emotional value."

Yuji stretched. "It was… something. I learned something new."

That pretty much summed it up.

Todo and Choso stood up.

"We shall take our leave," Todo declared.

"Brother time resumes later," Choso added.

They both left like they had somewhere important to be.

Silence.

Now it was just Yuji and me.

I didn't even bother saying anything. I just threw myself onto his bed.

"This is mine now," I muttered.

Yuji looked at me for a second, then shrugged and joined me.

"No problem."

We just… lay there.

No weird tension. No awkward stuff. Nothing sexual.

Just two tired people sharing a bed.

Honestly? Kinda nice.

I closed my eyes.

And passed out almost instantly.

I woke up early.

Still half-dead, but functional.

Jujutsu sorcerer perks. Four hours of sleep, and you're good. Well, only those who are good with the Reverse Cursed Technique are like this, like Gojo, and with the sole exception of Ikuyo Kita. I muttered to myself as I glazed myself.

I blinked a few times as I felt something weird. My feet were on top of something solid.

Then I noticed something.

Yuji was awake.

And staring at me.

"…What are you looking at?" I asked, suddenly scaring him.

He flinched.

"N—Nothing! I just couldn't sleep!"

I narrowed my eyes slightly.

Then I noticed something else.

My feet were on top of his lap.

Oh...

Oh no.

He couldn't even move.

"…Ah," I muttered. "…my bad."

I quickly pulled my leg back, feeling my face heat up a bit.

"I'm… a chaotic sleeper."

"That's one way to put it…" Yuji muttered.

The silence after that?

Awful. Absolutely awful.

I stood up immediately.

"Yep. I'm leaving."

Before he could say anything, I walked out.

Fast. Very fast. Like a flash.

I made my way to the private garden.

Fresh air. Peace. Calm.

Then I saw it.

A group of old men.

Kneeling.

In front of Satoru Gojo.

What the hell.

I squinted. Wait.

Some of them weren't even old.

"…Zenin clan?" I muttered.

Then I saw him.

Naoya Zenin.

Kneeling. Beaten up.

Actually, all of them looked like they got folded. They all had bruises all over their bodies.

I walked closer. They all turned to look at me.

Naoya included.

Gojo turned around dramatically.

He was wearing no blindfold.

"…Weird," I muttered.

"Sensei… what is going on?"

He looked at me like he was about to drop the most important speech of his life.

"Ikuyo…" he said calmly.

Then struck a pose. "I will control the world."

I stared at him.

"Diagnosis… chuunibyou."

Dead serious.

"Grown ass man doing this. Tch."

Gojo clutched his chest as I'd stabbed him.

The entire group went silent.

No one dared to speak.

Because I just insulted him.

To his face and lived. And Gojo would beat them for even failing to answer one of his most random questions.

If they were to say this to Gojo now... They feared they would have been killed.

"Ikuyo…" he muttered, fake-wounded. "How could you do this to your poor sensei…"

Naoya's eye twitched. He was barely holding it in.

The man he admired—getting disrespected.

By me. A woman he had beaten before.

He couldn't take it. He got up and stepped forward.

"A foid like you insults the great Gojo Satoru? What do you think you are, bitch?" he spat. "Satoru-san, say the word, and I'll teach her a lesson."

I blinked.

"What? Why is Naoya acting like a mob..."

Even Gojo looked surprised.

And where did he even learn that word?

Doesn't matter though.

I grinned. Slowly cracking my knuckles.

"You want a beating, boy?" I asked, lowering my voice slightly.

I let go of my cursed energy, letting it flow through my body.

Pressure pressed on Naoya like a mountain.

Naoya stiffened.

"T-This pressure…" he thought, clearly shaken. "…It's no less than Yuta Okkotsu…"

But pride won.

Of course it did. He would never accept defeat from a girl.

I tilted my head.

"Your face already looks beaten," I added. "I'll make it worse. Call it revenge."

I glanced at Gojo.

He smiled.

Then casually grabbed the other elders from different clans and Zenin members.

And dragged them away.

"Have fun," he said.

Just like that. We were alone.

Just me. And Naoya.

And a beating that was promised to me thousands of years ago.
