[3rd Person POV]
James glanced through the slightly ajar door to confirm Kael's presence, then pulled it open.
"Do either of you have anything valuable you want to take with you? We may never come back here," Kael asked.
James responded negatively, but Kael caught the hesitation in Janice's eyes.
He crouched down and spoke as gently as he could. "You can tell me whatever it is."
After a moment of contemplation, she answered, "I have to take my friend Julie with me."
'I didn't see anyone else alive in this building.'
"And where is your friend?"
"She is the next room."
Kael straightened up and extended his hand towards her. "Okay, let's go see your friend."
Janice obediently wrapped her small hand around Kael's finger and stepped out of the room. James followed.
In the next room, Kael scanned it again, checking for anything or anyone he might have missed. He didn't have to wait long, Janice went straight for a drawer within her reach and pulled out a slightly worn-out doll.
