After that night of feigned jealousy, everything seemed to remain exactly the same. Dominic Vance still came home from work on time, still sat down to eat the meals he cooked, and still pinned Lucien to the bed with a frequency that would make anyone suspect this novel protagonist had kidneys made of stainless steel.
However, Lucien knew that something had quietly shifted.
At the very least, during certain fleeting moments, Lucien caught a glimpse of Dominic Vance looking at him with eyes full of calculation. It only happened in the blink of an eye, making Lucien feel as though he could not even be certain. It was just that occasionally, he felt like a piece of merchandise being placed on a scale by a merchant to be weighed and evaluated.
