In desperation, Claude turned toward Edgar for help, but the old man merely shook his head coldly. Whether Edgar truly didn't know what was happening to Mari's body or simply intended to let her die from sickness, Claude couldn't tell.
"She's sick because she hasn't absorbed enough spiritual energy," the golden-eyed Zarkel explained after Edgar secretly informed him about Mari's condition without Claude's knowledge.
"Didn't she absorb the Young Master's spiritual energy?"
"If she had done that, Young Master Claude would have collapsed unconscious and fallen seriously ill long ago. I also don't understand why the young queen restrained herself."
The survival instincts of an insect queen were terrifyingly strong. To sustain her own life, she would instinctively drain the spiritual energy from every living creature around her. Even members of her own clan were not exempt from her hunger.
