When he finished laughing, he realized Stella Sterling wasn't speaking. She was just staring at him indifferently.
His heart skipped a beat, and he felt a little scared inside.
They had grown familiar with each other over the past few days, and he had started acting more casually around her, no longer on edge like he used to be.
But he hadn't forgotten for a second just how terrifying this woman was.
Now, seeing her looking at him like that, his heart started pounding like a drum, thumping away without end.
He spoke up again. "Miss, I was wrong. I shouldn't have badmouthed the man you like. But I wasn't really trying to! Back in my day, that guy was famous for being crazy!"
"But aside from acting a little crazy, he didn't really have any other flaws."
He thought for a moment, then added, "And, on a brighter note, he never had any women around him. I never even heard rumors of him being remotely romantic with anyone."
