Indeed, they had encountered all sorts of Frost Beasts along the way. At first, Faye Yardley and the others assumed these creatures were simply mutated forms of the animals that used to inhabit the area, as every Frost Beast closely resembled a familiar animal. However, the remarkably lifelike bird perched on the roof ridge completely shattered their previous assumptions.
They wondered what the Frost Beasts really were. Were they truly a new species automatically spawned after the world was sealed in ice? If so, the implications were terrifying. Given enough time, would they develop intelligence, form tribes, and eventually evolve into a new race of Otherkin?
Faye pushed off lightly from the ground, soaring into the air. She leaped onto the roof ridge and snatched the frozen bird. Through the ice, the sheer terror in its eyes remained clearly visible.
