But Lucas Lockwood lowered his head and planted a quick, firm peck on her slightly parted lips, cutting off whatever she was about to say.
Then, he dropped his head completely, burying his face in the crook of her slender, warm neck. He greedily inhaled her faint, reassuring scent, his voice muffled and thick with exhaustion and dependence. "Cece, I'm so tired... Let me sleep here for a little while, okay?"
Feeling the weight of his body pressing against her in dependence and hearing the rare vulnerability in his voice, Josie Quinn's heart instantly softened.
She raised her hands to gently hug him back, patting his back. "Why don't you go take a hot shower to unwind? You can get a good night's sleep here afterward."
