"What's wrong?" she asked, tilting her head to look at him.

He didn't stop what he was doing as he spoke.
Josie Quinn immediately understood what he meant, and a faint blush crept onto her cheeks.
She still hadn't fully adjusted to this kind of relationship. Facing him, she felt a little insecure.
Cole wasn't as nonchalant as he appeared, either.
His gaze slid down uncontrollably, brushing past her slender neck.
There, a few ambiguous red marks that had yet to fully fade were particularly glaring under the base's bright lights, like cold needles piercing deep into his pupils.
He thought he could accept it, but his heart still ached.
He forced himself to look away, pushing the surging emotions back down.
He struggled to maintain his calm facade.
'I'll get used to it,' he thought. 'As long as she's by my side, everything else... I can slowly learn to accept.'
