At the doorway, Julian Ford and Cole stood like two opposing mountain peaks. The air seemed to congeal, thick with a bizarrely strained atmosphere.
Seeing Cole, Josie finally confirmed it wasn't a dream. She spoke instinctively, "So you really are here."
Julian Ford's eyes narrowed. "Cece, you know we don't take in people with questionable backgrounds."
Cole immediately looked at Josie, his gaze open and direct. "Cece, you know my background isn't questionable. The only reason I want to stay here is because you're here."
His words were blunt and fervent, making no attempt to hide his intentions.

"Cece, he can't stay."
"My staying here will only benefit you; there are no drawbacks," Cole continued, pleading his case.
