Keep in mind, killing a monster didn't guarantee a Demon Core. Sometimes, you'd only get one to drop after killing eight or ten of them.
Ten Demon Cores was the equivalent of killing at least fifty monsters.
For the average superpower user, this was a huge temptation.
As a result, many of the superpower users who had backed out were now itching to rejoin.
Meanwhile, the few who hadn't backed out found the situation suspicious, and a faint desire to withdraw began to sprout in their minds.
