Chapter 19 - Chapter 4: The Locked Room (4/4)

Kanya stood frozen by the small grave.

No wind. No sound. Only the weight of every lie her mother had ever told her.

Beneath this dirt lay the first Kanya—the sister she'd never met, the shadow that had haunted her life without a face. The reason for the whispers, the dreams, the things that never added up.

She was the replacement.

A second chance.

A living deception.

Praneet spoke softly behind her. "You shouldn't have come back."

Kanya turned, slowly. Her voice low.

"I deserved to know. We both did."

He said nothing.

From the house came a soft creak—the front door swinging open by itself. As if the house itself was breathing.

Kanya stepped away from the grave, brushing dirt from her hands.

"I'm leaving this place," she said. "For good."

But as she passed the doorway, something in the house changed.

The air grew cold.

The photo frames on the wall—the ones she thought were crooked—straightened, perfectly aligned.A soft, child's laughter echoed down the hall.

The reflection in the window by the staircase shifted.

For a moment—not her face.

A younger girl. Familiar. Smiling.

Watching.

"You promised you wouldn't forget me."

Kanya's heart stopped.

The house was awake now. And the truth she had dug up... would never sleep again.

The End.
