I'm quite sure I'll have plenty of time to discuss the details with both of you later."
He moved through the chamber with deliberate casualness, extracting fresh robes from his personal storage.
Then he began the process of shedding the vestiges of the battlefield. "How was your campaign?" Jin Mulan called after him, her voice only slightly uncertain.
"Successful." Luo He replied, not turning around. "I unified four tribes and eliminated a cannibal society that was consuming thousands of people annually.
The island complex is now under the control of Su Kim, who is proving to be remarkably capable. A new guy called Shian will assist her with tribal governance." He said casually.
He paused while holding up a soft robe and examining it with something approaching reverence.
"I have also apparently become the servant of some blood god, and received a parasitic creature that embedded into my life blood."
"And accumulated a debt that will likely require a few centuries to fully repay. But otherwise, the trip was uneventful." He said casually.
"You're joking." Ning Jia said weakly.
"Partially." Luo He conceded. "Though the blood god part might have been real.
I'm still trying to determine whether it was a dream or something more substantial."
He finally turned to face them, having removed the outer layers of his battlefield clothing.
He stood in lighter robes now, looking almost normal again. Almost domesticated. But his eyes held something that had not been there before he left.
Something that had been fundamentally altered by what he had witnessed and what he had done. "As for the two of you?" He said, regarding them with apparent interest.
"I'm genuinely curious about the development. When did this begin? How long has it been going on? And more importantly," he paused.
"Are you genuinely into each other, or is this some form of rebellion against my absence?" He asked casually.
The directness of the question seemed to take the wind from both women.
"When you were gone," Jin Mulan said slowly. "Ning Jia was... sad. Deeply sad. I tried to comfort her just as you said." She informed.
"We spent time together. And eventually the comfort transformed into something else." She looked at Ning Jia. "I didn't expect to feel what I feel for her. But I do."
Ning Jia nodded, her face still red but her eyes clearer now. "I love her," she said simply. "When you're here, we love you. When you're gone, we love each other." Jin Mulan added calmely.
"And now that you're both here, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to feel." Jin Mulan added confused. Luo He was quiet for a long moment.
"That's remarkably honest," he said finally. "And also considerably more complicated than I had anticipated." He sat on the edge of a nearby chair.
"I need to think about this." He said softly.
"The arrangement I have always maintained has been that I remain the primary focal point of affection."
"Deviations from that arrangement are permitted as long as they don't create conflicts." He paused.
"But what you're describing sounds like something more substantial than mere accommodation." He said calmely.
"Is that a problem?" Jin Mulan asked, her voice steady but her eyes watchful. "I am not sure yet," Luo He replied. "Ask me again when I've had time to process this properly." He said calmely.
"I need time to assess what I've just witnessed and what it means for the future of this household." He stood and retreated to the bathing chamber.
Leaving Jin Mulan and Ning Jia alone with each other and the weight of what his arrival had changed about their relationship and its future.
While Luo He's shuttle cut through the sky back to the mansion, Xu Mun and Long departed the island complex on a merchant vessel.
The ship was fast for its type, but not fast enough to match the Black Cloud shuttles' speed. It was considered something out of this world entirely.
Xu Mun spent the voyage standing at the bow, watching the water pass beneath them while thinking about what had transpired.
He had been Luo He's enemy once. Everything he had built had been destroyed by Luo He's command. His family had been slaughtered except for his youngest daughter.
Who had been kept alive as insurance.
A guarantee that Xu Mun would either cooperate fully or watch her suffer.
And yet, now he served that same man out of something approaching genuine admiration. Luo He had shown him something he had not known was possible.
The ability to commit atrocities on a massive scale while maintaining the absolute loyalty and respect of those who witnessed them.
The ability to be a monster and be loved for it. The ability to reshape entire civilizations through a combination of fear, respect, and genuine vision.
Long stood beside him, the massive man seemingly indifferent to the sea voyage despite never having experienced water travel before.
The bone necklace that Luo He had given him hung around his wrist, still too small for his neck, but worn with pride.
"Chief come back soon?" Long asked, his simple consciousness still focused entirely on the one thing that mattered to him.
"Yes." Xu Mun replied. "Chief comes back. And when he does, we will be ready for whatever comes next." The ship cut through the water toward the distant shore.
Carrying two men toward a future that neither could entirely predict, but both understood would be defined by their loyalty to the man who had remade their world.
Luo He emerged from the bathing chamber in fresh robes, his hair still damp, his expression composed and authoritative.
He studied Jin Mulan and Ning Jia, who remained on the bed exactly where he had left them. Waiting, uncertain, unsure what his response would be to the discovery he had made.
"I expected my wifee to come rushing to greet me," he said. His tone measured and deliberate. "Instead, I find the two of you occupied with each other."
"This tells me fundamentally something has shifted in the dynamics of this household." He said calmely. Both women went still.
"This is not necessarily negative." He continued, moving to a sitting position across from the two girls sitting on the bed.
"In fact, it demonstrates a capacity for adaptation and genuine connection that I find... funny." He said calmely. "But it also requires careful management."
He let the silence stretch, allowing them to absorb the weight of what he was about to establish. "These are the rules," he said finally.
"First — this remains between the three of us. Absolutely no one else should know or suspects. In public, you are sworn sisters. Affection is acceptable, but nothing that suggests romantic involvement. Servants may observe you sleeping together without concern, but any display of romance is forbidden outside these chambers." He said.
Ning Jia nodded, still processing the situation.
"Second — you will inform me of any progress or developments. I do not appreciate surprises regarding my women. If I had learned of this from someone else, the consequences would have been significantly more severe." He paused meaningfully. "Your lack of transparency will require correction." He added calmely.
"Third — and most importantly, you both will always consider me your primary relationship. This arrangement is permitted, but only as a supplement. Never as a replacement." He said calmely.
Jin Mulan met his gaze steadily. "And if we cannot accept those conditions?" She asked casually. "You have to ask, don't you." He said softly.
"If so, this relationship have to end immediately." Luo He replied without hesitation. "And we proceed as before. But I suspect you will find the latest compromise acceptable." He said softly.
Both women exchanged a glance, then nodded. "Very well," Luo He said. "Now that we have established clarity, I have another matter to address." He said warmly.
