Power and water outages were common in the old district. Lin Daqiang, long used to it, could only curse out loud.
He had come from the mountains and experienced far worse living conditions. But after a few years of enjoying a life of luxury, Lin Daqiang now did nothing but complain.
"Damn that Lin Lanhuo! If she hadn't insisted on stirring up trouble at a time like this, I wouldn't be stuck hiding and suffering in this shithole."
Lin Daqiang reached out, fumbling around on the bed. It was cold, and he wanted to get dressed before going out to check if the circuit breaker had tripped.
But when he reached under the warm covers, his hand touched something ice-cold.
"Wha—what is that!"
Mustering his courage, Lin Daqiang threw back the covers, only to be met with a pair of eerily glowing eyes and a hissing sound.
"A snake! There's a snake...!"
