A faint red mark was still visible.
"I tried to dodge, but he was too fast. I couldn't get away."
Her voice was soft and a little apprehensive, but her words were utterly self-assured. "It wasn't my fault. It's all Mason Morgan's fault."
Preston Keaton was so exasperated he laughed.
The air fell silent. All he could hear was her light breathing on the other end, the slightly nervous exhales coiling around his thoughts.
He calmly lowered his gaze and suddenly spoke with cool composure, "Are you tattling to me?"
Evelyn Grant was confused for a few seconds, not realizing at all that her tone had held a hint of tattling. When it dawned on her, she mumbled, "No."
But Preston Keaton's brow smoothed out. The tense atmosphere from before vanished, replaced by his magnetic voice.
"I know. I'll get revenge for you, baby."
