The dean's office was perfectly still. No one said a word.
Mrs. Fairchild stared intently at Dean Quinn's hands as he took Olivia Wynne's pulse.
The oppressive silence seemed to make time crawl. Seated in her chair, Olivia Wynne found the wait agonizing.
She looked up at Dean Quinn across from her. For some reason, she had a bad feeling about this.
Dean Quinn continued to take Olivia Wynne's pulse, his wise eyes glinting sharply.
After a long moment, Dean Quinn's brow furrowed slightly as he glanced over at Mrs. Fairchild.
"Zachary really got married?"
Mrs. Fairchild nodded firmly again. "Dad, I just told you. He really is married."
Olivia Wynne thought she heard a faint sigh escape Dean Quinn's lips, but she wasn't sure if she had imagined it.
Dean Quinn's gaze drifted into the distance. After half a minute of silence, he said to Mrs. Fairchild, "Take this young lady and step outside. I need to have a word with Fairchild."
