It made his buddy think he'd been dumped by some woman and was trying to drown his sorrows.

Ian Shannon had come here today for one reason only: to drink. He was completely oblivious to what was being danced or shouted on the stage downstairs.

After drinking for over an hour, the bar's atmosphere grew more and more electric, but he was already lying on the sofa, his consciousness hazy.

It wasn't until seven-thirty in the evening that Yara Quillan told Moira Irving she had to go out for a bit.
