Jace gave Phoebe a deep, searching look. He knew far more than she realized.
"If you can't make the cut, then..."
"I refuse!" Phoebe vehemently objected. If she made the cut, she would get a promise from Jace. That promise was especially important to her now. She had to make the cut. She had to get that promise from him.
Jace hadn't expected Phoebe to be so adamant, but seeing her eyes brimming with determination, he took back his words.
"Fine, but you still need to keep revising." Jace handed the design sketches back to Phoebe. "If you run into any problems, come and ask me."
Phoebe stood her ground, not taking the design sketches Jace held out to her.
She was silent for a long while before finally asking, "If I want to make the cut, what should I do? What should I design? Or..."
