Phoebe Faulkner was kissed awake.
She was completely dazed, just staring at Jace, forgetting to breathe, forgetting how to make any expression.
'What's wrong with this man?'
'Why would he suddenly…?'
She blinked. The air in the room seemed to grow thin, and the temperature was rising.
"Jace…" Phoebe wanted to speak but didn't know what to say. Stunned, she just stared at Jace, wondering what he would do to her next.
Just as Phoebe was getting nervous, however, he suddenly pulled away. He rolled over, got out of bed, and left her side. Without even putting on his shoes, he turned and went straight into the bathroom.
Phoebe collapsed back onto the bed, still a little dazed.
By the time she came to her senses, her cheeks were burning hot, as if she'd downed several shots of strong liquor. The sound of rushing water from the bathroom seemed to pour straight into her heart, making it lose its rhythm and pound chaotically.
