The message made Jace Lennox's gaze darken slightly.
He sat on the sofa, picked up his phone, tapped "Reply," and typed out a few words.
Phoebe Faulkner was in the passenger seat, on the way to the wedding venue with Kitty, when she received a text from Jace Lennox. She opened it and saw the two words on the screen. Her gaze darkened slightly, and she eventually replied with four words of her own.
Jace Lennox received the text and opened it.
Upon seeing the content, the corners of Jace Lennox's mouth tightened. He put down his phone and stood up. Sunlight fell across the screen, revealing the four words displayed there: "Thank you, no need."
"Phoebe, who are you texting?"
Kitty couldn't help but ask, noticing Phoebe on her phone.
"My creditor."
