Scott Sterling's whiskers twitched as he stared at Gina Gable with a bizarre expression.
"I've always been able to do that. Didn't you just see it? Why are you acting so surprised?"
Gina Gable tilted her head, looking utterly mystified. "I... You..." she stammered, "I thought I was hallucinating."
Scott Sterling leaped down from the entryway cabinet, padding gracefully toward his pink cat bed. "It wasn't a hallucination. What you just saw was real."
He nestled into the cat bed, curling into a sullen ball. "A cat turned into a human, then back into a cat."
He paused. "Also, I could always talk. I was just pretending to meow because I was afraid I'd scare you."
Gina Gable was still in a daze, standing stock-still in the middle of the living room and staring at the nonchalant Scott Sterling in his bed. "Oh..." she managed.
Scott Sterling looked down at his paws and sighed heavily.
