The teacher called Annelise Valentine while she was chatting with Madam Amy in the courtyard.
The sun was pleasantly warm. Madam Amy, holding a freshly baked apple pie, was telling her stories about traveling to Freyenne in her youth.
With Pippa in kindergarten, it was rare for her to have such a peaceful afternoon.
Then, her phone rang.
Annelise glanced at the caller ID—it was the kindergarten.
Her heart sank. She answered, "Hello?"
The teacher's voice was a bit frantic, her English tinged with a Jorgenlandic accent. "Pippa's mom, can you come to the kindergarten? Pippa got into a fight with some other children."
Annelise was taken aback. "A fight?"
The teacher paused, her tone shifting subtly. "To be precise, he beat up several other children."
Annelise was speechless...
Twenty minutes later, she and Madam Amy rushed to the kindergarten.
