By the time Annelise Valentine returned to Westgate Manor from the Westgate Mausoleum, the sky was already starting to dim.
She pushed the door open and saw Zane Patterson sitting on the sofa, clearly waiting for her.
Shayne Morgan was curled up in an armchair on the other side, holding up her phone and taking selfies from various angles.
Hearing the door open, they both looked up at the same time.
Zane Patterson shot to his feet almost instantly. "Annelise."
Annelise nodded and gave a soft "Mm."
Zane Patterson glanced behind her. "He didn't come back with you?"
"He had a last-minute meeting, so he went to the office." She averted her gaze, her tone calm.
Annelise walked a few steps into the living room. On the way back, she'd been wracking her brain for a way to get Jett Westgate out of the house before evening. She had come up with several excuses, ready to find the right moment to use one.
