Zane Patterson reached out and gently placed his hand on Annelise Valentine's shoulder.
"Annelise, go be with Chloe. We'll handle this ourselves."
Annelise Valentine didn't budge an inch. "No! If I leave, you'll die today!"
Zane Patterson suddenly smiled, a gentle expression so heartbreaking it could shatter a person.
"Annelise, it doesn't matter anymore. There's no point in living like this."
Annelise Valentine was on the verge of breaking down. She didn't understand why it had to come to this. She lowered her voice and said, "Zane, don't be like this. Believe what I just told you. I'll get you out of here, I promise. Trust me."
Zane Patterson looked worried. "Annelise, don't get worked up. Don't forget, you're not alone right now..."
"Alright, that's enough of the life-or-death melodrama." Jett Westgate's voice cut in from a few meters away, interrupting them.
