"Georgia Thorne, you've scared me twice today!" Nancy Hughes said angrily, dropping the broom. "I thought a burglar had broken in!"
"I just went downstairs for a walk."
Nancy Hughes's sharp eyes spotted the bag in her hand. "You went shopping? Did you buy medicine?"
Georgia Thorne instinctively hid the birth control pills behind her back and grunted in affirmation. "My throat feels a little scratchy. I think I might be catching a cold."
Georgia Thorne had been crying that afternoon, so her voice did sound different than usual.
Nancy Hughes didn't suspect a thing. Georgia Thorne was clearly in a bad mood, so she just offered a piece of advice. "Get some sleep. A good night's sleep will help you forget all the bad things that happened today."
Touched by her good friend's comfort, Georgia Thorne nodded and went into her room.
There was still some cold water in the teacup.
She popped a pill from the blister pack and put it in her mouth.
'Good thing Nancy Hughes didn't see.'
