Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Why Did You Get Caught in the Rain?

Georgia Thorne furrowed her brow, disliking Amanda Thorne's tone. "I got it. If there's nothing else, Selena is still waiting for me to cut the cake."

She told a white lie, not wanting to speak with Amanda any further.

Amanda Thorne scoffed and hung up.

As Georgia returned, she overheard them talking about her.

They were discussing why she hadn't gone back then, and how if she had, she would now be a member of the Sheridan Family.

Georgia felt extremely awkward. She had sealed away the memories from that time and didn't want to revisit them.

But of all people, the usually taciturn Elliot Sheridan seemed intrigued and spoke up. "A serious illness? How unfortunate."

No one present had expected Elliot to speak, and all eyes turned to Georgia.

Her clear eyes filled with astonishment. "I got caught in the rain and fell ill."

"Why were you in the rain?" he pressed, his dark eyes sharp and piercing.

To everyone else, Elliot's question was casual at best. But in Georgia's heart, it felt aggressive.

The color drained from her cheeks. "I just... got caught in the rain. That's all."

It was a flimsy excuse. She looked at Elliot, her large, clear eyes pleading with him.

Elliot slipped a hand into his pocket and, just as she'd wished, said no more.

The Sheridans all had a good impression of Georgia, especially James Sheridan, who felt the young woman wasn't vain and flashy like other girls.

If his son had really adopted her back then, it wouldn't have been a bad thing at all.

It was a great pity.

As the night deepened, the Sheridan Family enthusiastically invited her to stay over.

Georgia firmly refused.

Just then, Elliot Sheridan came downstairs in a fresh change of casual clothes. "I'll take her home."

Sharon Ennis looked at him. "Where are you off to so late at night? Aren't you staying in?"

Elliot smiled. "Mom, Donnie and the guys invited me out. I can just drop her off on the way."

"Donnie again," Sharon Ennis said, displeased. "You spend all your time with them. You're going to be led astray sooner or later!"

"Mom, come on. No matter what, I'll always be your good son!"

Georgia looked at Elliot in surprise. The Elliot who could wheedle his mother was completely different from the high-and-mighty man of rumor.

'Actually, he's quite handsome when he smiles.'

Since Elliot was going out, it was only natural for him to take Georgia home.

Georgia couldn't refuse. It was either leave with Elliot or stay here.

'Besides, every little bit of contact with Elliot helps. Maybe he'll change his mind and want to take me in.'

Under everyone's watchful eyes, Georgia didn't dare make much eye contact with Elliot. She politely thanked him, "Thank you, Mr. Sheridan."

'"Mr. Sheridan" again? Is this girl addicted to calling me that?'

She then changed her shoes and followed the man.

At Selena Sheridan's birthday party, she had drunk quite a bit of fruit wine.

She hadn't thought much of it at the time, but shortly after getting in the car, her head started to feel fuzzy.

Her head felt heavy, and as she looked at Elliot, her vision blurred and wavered.
