Julian Winslow chuckled after hearing her out. "You're quite ruthless. One moment you're having him help issue a loan, and the next you're throwing him in prison."
"I recall Winslow telling me that I wouldn't survive in my current position if I wasn't ruthless," Shalma Hughes said, her starry eyes narrowing.
Julian looked at the woman so close to him. A thin mist clouded his normally calculating pupils, making it difficult for Shalma to discern the complex emotions swirling within those perpetually dark eyes.
"Shalma, what do you think is holding our relationship together?"
It was far too complicated a question. Shalma struggled to find an answer, yet she couldn't just remain silent. Left with no other choice, she replied, "Because of love, obviously. Isn't it the same for you, Winslow?"
Before her voice could even fade, he threw himself at her.
They hadn't seen each other in a week. Even if love wasn't truly in the equation, they had still missed one another.
