His words echoed in her ears: "You're too thin. Eat more."
Shalma Hughes looked at the chicken leg in her bowl, completely losing her appetite. She immediately picked it up with her chopsticks. "I'm not thin. I'm exactly a hundred pounds. Mrs. Lewis, on the other hand, has been working very hard lately. She should be the one eating this to nourish herself." With that, she dropped the chicken leg directly into Mrs. Lewis's bowl.
Mrs. Lewis was put in a difficult spot. She glanced at her employer, then at his wife, wondering what kind of game they were playing.
It was clearly just a small piece of meat, but it weighed on Mrs. Lewis's chest like a massive boulder. If she ate it, Mr. Winslow would be displeased. If she didn't, Madam would be unhappy. She sighed inwardly. Life was just too difficult sometimes.
Throughout the meal, Mrs. Lewis never once touched the chicken leg.
