Stumbling upon such a scene, Mrs. Lewis didn't dare linger. She threw a hasty greeting to Julian Winslow and immediately bolted.
By the time Shalma Hughes emerged fully dressed, Julian was already seated properly in front of the room's floor-to-ceiling windows. An array of exquisite breakfast items was laid out before him, and he was intently reading the morning paper. A halo of sunlight happened to spill across his face, making him look even more untouchable.
Shalma averted her gaze and walked over. Without a word, she took the seat directly across from him.
Julian put down his newspaper. He attentively poured her a cup of coffee and then reached over to swap their breakfast plates.
Shalma glanced at the meal now in front of her—perfectly sliced eggs and ham. She paused for a moment, picked up the coffee, took a sip, and said, "Actually, you don't need to do this."
