Shalma Hughes nodded. Pulling Wendy Quinn along by the hand, she followed suit.
The waiter led Shalma and Wendy to the cashier.
Wendy felt a bit awkward, a flurry of calculations running through her mind. She had spoken so confidently and bluntly just moments ago. If they couldn't actually cough up the money to pay for their meal, it would be utterly humiliating. At this thought, Wendy once again felt the urge to bury her head in the sand. Subconsciously, she leaned closer to Shalma.
Compared to Wendy's jumpiness, Shalma was much more composed. She pulled a card from her crossbody bag and handed it to the cashier. Upon taking the card and getting a clear look at it, the staff member's attitude immediately turned respectful.
"Excuse me, miss. Is this card yours?"
Shalma replied simply, "It belongs to a friend. Can't I use it?"
"Oh! Of course not... Please wait just a moment."
