Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Maintaining Client Relations

'What a great colleague! To have a subordinate like this, and Yuan Kai still talks trash about him behind his back. He truly doesn't know a good thing when he has it. That man has no vision!'

Feng Feifei had made up her mind about Yuan Kai.

"Alright, Chen Xiao. You've worked hard, too! I'll have Zhiwei Residence from downstairs send some food up for you guys," Feng Feifei said before leaving for the day.

"Chen Xiao, thanks for staying behind to do some unpaid overtime with me!" Yuan Kai said smugly, thinking his plan had worked.

'Only a dumbass works unpaid overtime,' Chen Xiao sneered internally. 'You'll never understand my game.'

'Huh? That's right. It's not exactly unpaid overtime. If this project goes through, I'll get a 25,000 yuan bonus.' At that thought, Yuan Kai's fatigue instantly vanished. He said happily, "That's true. There's quite a bit of money on the line. I really have you to thank for your contribution!"

Chen Xiao snorted disdainfully. 'So unsophisticated. Master Chen wouldn't even glance at that piddling amount of money.'

Chen Xiao's snort, however, reminded Yuan Kai that Chen Xiao stood to make 250,000 from this project. 'Holy shit, my heart aches. If I had handled this myself, all of that would be mine! All mine!'

Chen Xiao, of course, was oblivious to Yuan Kai's inner turmoil. He had just gotten wrecked in his game and yelled, "Fuck, I've got a moron on my team!"

Yuan Kai immediately flew into a rage. "Who are you cursing at?"

'Huh? None of your damn business.' Then he realized Yuan Kai must have thought the insult was for him. So he said, "It has nothing to do with you. You work on your proposal, I'll play my game. You should treasure that 100-to-1 return you're getting!"

'Holy shit, is he really this shameless about playing games at work? What a classic case of a lowlife hitting the jackpot!'

Yuan Kai forced himself not to say another word. If this conversation continued, his blood pressure would skyrocket. A stroke would be the end of him.

'Huh? Wait a minute. What did he mean by "100 times the profit"?... Was he just calling me an idiot?'

By the time Yuan Kai belatedly figured it out, Chen Xiao had already started a new game. All Yuan Kai could do was stew in his own anger.

At 11:30 PM, Yuan Kai finally finished redoing the proposal and sent it to Chen Xiao.

'Just another half hour to go for a perfect mission completion,' Chen Xiao thought. He reviewed the document with painstaking slowness. After more than ten minutes, Yuan Kai prompted impatiently, "Are you done reading it or not?"

"I've read it. Looks like there are a few typos and some incorrect punctuation in the middle. You should probably fix them, or it'll reflect badly on the company."

Yuan Kai asked, "Where?" This affected his professional image, after all.

"I forgot to mark them. You should probably check it again."

'Damn you! Are you even human? What the hell were you staring at for all that time, then?' Yuan Kai's eyes were bloodshot with frustration.

Chen Xiao said with an innocent look, "Sorry, I don't have much experience with this. I forgot."

'I'll endure this,' Yuan Kai thought. Not wanting all his work to be for nothing, he meticulously checked the document three times but couldn't find any typos. He rubbed his swimming head and said in a nearly pleading tone, "There are no mistakes here!"

Chen Xiao slowly stood up. "I couldn't remember exactly where. That's why I said it *seemed* like there were mistakes. Since you've checked it a few times, it should be fine now."

'The main thing is, it's midnight. Mission accomplished, time to clock out!'

Looking like death would be a sweet release, Yuan Kai watched, dumbstruck, as Chen Xiao packed his bag and left the office. He slammed his fist onto the keyboard. 'Fuck! You're messing with me! Just you wait!'

FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! Chen Xiao was long gone and didn't hear. Yuan Kai realized his fist slam had inserted random punctuation and garbled text into the finished proposal. He had to spend another half an hour reviewing it again before saving, shutting down, and leaving the office, utterly exhausted.

"DING! Mission complete. Completion Rate: 100%. Distributing random gift package..."

"Reward 1: Constitution +5. Reward 2: Diligence Points +2. Reward 3: One 50-square-meter apartment in Hai Run Mansion. The property deed has been delivered by courier to the Host's mailbox at your rented apartment."

There were three rewards. Constitution +5. Chen Xiao immediately felt a vibrant energy course through him, as if all his attributes had improved. But a glance at his character panel showed he had gotten his hopes up—his Endurance hadn't increased. 'This is so illogical! So illogical!'

The +2 Diligence Points were a pleasant surprise. This would be a huge help for his future earnings.

As for the final reward, the property, the system was being a bit cheap. A 50-square-meter apartment wasn't worth that much, but at least he wouldn't have to live in a rental anymore.

[Host: Chen Xiao (Diligence Points: 4)]

[Profession: Dr. Feng's Robot - Business Specialist]

[Height: 178CM, Weight: 75KG]

[Constitution: 80, Endurance: 60, Health: 70, Charm: 80]

Diligence Reward: Multiplier 4

[Assets:

Balance: 491,200

Property: Hai Run Mansion (50-sq-meter apartment)

The Diligence Reward multiplier was now 4. This meant his bonus would be another 500,000 yuan higher. Wahaha!

It was already past midnight, so he obviously wasn't going to Hai Run Mansion tonight. He went back to his rental as usual and packed up his important belongings. He could move tomorrow!

The next day at work, the first thing Chen Xiao did was send the project proposal to Bai Lu. This was just for the 3 million yuan equipment procurement deal. The related research project would require Feng Feifei to lead a team for further discussions, and the details would be finalized after negotiations between both parties.

Bai Lu replied quickly, sending over a digital copy of the procurement agreement. After receiving it and giving it a quick look, Chen Xiao went directly to consult Feng Feifei. The company's new legal counsel hadn't started yet, so Feng Feifei was juggling multiple roles. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call her a model-worker General Manager.

Getting the agreement so quickly surprised Feng Feifei yet again. This was truly the smoothest business negotiation she had ever experienced, and for a 3 million yuan deal at that. Normally, a project like this would require at least six months of follow-up.

'Chen Xiao is really a lucky charm!' Feng Feifei thought, her gaze growing brighter as she looked at him. He was like a treasure trove; an employee like him was hard to find even if you searched with a lantern.

Chen Xiao started to feel awkward. He was afraid Feng Feifei was lusting after his body. 'Should I consent, consent, or... consent? It's such a difficult decision!'

The tasks of printing the contract, stamping the official seals, and binding the documents were still handed over to Yuan Kai. A department manager, he was now effectively working as an assistant. But at least he could get a 25,000 yuan bonus, so his hard work wasn't entirely for nothing. However, the thought of Chen Xiao's "good luck" had kept him up all night. If only it had been him instead.

He even fantasized that if he had been the one to land the 5 million yuan order, given the company's current situation, he would have been like a hero descending on a seven-colored cloud, single-handedly turning the tide. He imagined Feng Feifei might not go as far as to offer herself in marriage, but making him a vice president would have been a sure thing.

'Too bad that scoundrel Chen Xiao got lucky. But thankfully, he's still in his probation period. He can only get the bonus. A promotion? He can dream on!'

Little did Yuan Kai know, in Chen Xiao's eyes, a promotion was worth less than a fart. He was trying his best to avoid one.

Yuan Kai finished organizing the documents and tossed them to Chen Xiao, telling him to take them to the design institute to get them stamped by both parties as soon as possible. At the same time, he said, "You don't have anything on tonight, right? Come with me to entertain a client."

"No time."

Yuan Kai was furious. 'What's the excuse this time?!'

"Gotta play League."

'Fuck, is he really this arrogant now? Refusing to work so he can play a game, and saying it so brazenly? This is complete anarchy!'

But Chen Xiao's next sentence shut him up, because his reasoning was surprisingly self-consistent.

"I'm playing League with the director from the design institute. You know, maintaining client relations."
