Chapter 36 - Chapter 32: An Adventurer's Life

"A room is 10 Copper Coins a day, meals not included. There's also a 24 Copper Coin package that includes two meals a day."

"For a long-term stay... it's 2 Silver Coins for a month, or 6 Silver Coins for a month with two daily meals."

Just as Uncle Bain had said, the price wasn't expensive. At least, it was a bit cheaper than the last place he'd stayed.

"I'll stay for a month."

Lin Mo took out two Silver Coins from his bag. The monthly package was a good deal, saving 1 Silver Coin. The discount for the meal plan, however, was relatively smaller.

Besides, compared to eating the same food every day, Lin Mo preferred to find his own places to eat and change things up from time to time.

"No problem..."

The innkeeper was quick and efficient. He swiftly completed the check-in process and handed Lin Mo a Key: "Room 238. Second floor, head to the back, and turn left at the second corridor."

"That's really close to us."

Evan came over and handed the innkeeper six Silver Coins.

"Innkeeper, we'll renew rooms 243, 244, and 245 for another month. Also, we won't be renting 246 for now."

"Alright."

The innkeeper nodded without asking for a specific reason.

The people who stayed here were basically all Adventurers, and most of them checked in as a full team. When a room was suddenly given up, it meant someone had either left the team or died out in the field.

This sort of thing was normal. Sometimes, an entire team would go missing and never return.

Such was the world of an Adventurer; no one could say when they might meet a violent end.

That's why most Adventurers didn't bother with saving. They lived one day at a time. They'd spend their big money on equipment to increase their Combat Power and immediately spend their small change on life's pleasures, lest they die with money left unspent.

That kid Evan, for example, looked like he was planning to go shopping with Millian and spend a ton of money.

After dropping off some of his luggage in his room, Uncle Bain went home. He had a wife and a daughter.

It wasn't unusual for Adventurers to get married. Although it was an extremely high-risk job, they earned a lot. Compared to most commoners who were still struggling just to get by, Adventurers were quite sought-after in the marriage market.

But many Adventurers also chose not to marry. After all, having to take care of a family meant they wouldn't be as free, and a portion of their income would have to go toward supporting them.

As for their "needs"... well, that's what Flower Cluster Street was for.

Lin Mo shook his head and decided to go back to his room to rest first.

Following the innkeeper's directions, he found his room. Pushing the door open, he set his pack aside and counted his remaining funds.

16 Gold, 47 Silver, and 88 Copper. 8 of the Silver Coins came from exchanging Goblin ears at the side office when he visited the Association just now.

Of course, what he had told Edgar before was a lie. Lin Mo would never spend all his money on weapons and equipment. He always had to keep some in reserve for emergencies...

After carefully locking the door, Lin Mo took the Magic Scroll from his inner pocket and spread it out on the table to study it again.

He had read the words on it so many times he had almost memorized them. Still, he couldn't understand the text, which became incredibly obscure when combined. He had also tried reading it aloud softly, but the wonderful idea of learning Magic just by reading it once was, as expected, something you only saw in the wish-fulfillment novels of Minstrels.

Speaking of which, he still couldn't figure out the Scroll's origin. Finding a Magic Scroll in a small Goblin Nest was definitely not normal.

That's why Lin Mo didn't dare to show this Scroll to anyone. Besides, in all the days since he'd transmigrated to this world, he had yet to meet a single Mage.

There were probably not many of such a noble Profession in the whole of Roland Town.

After looking the Scroll up and down many more times, Lin Mo sighed helplessly. He could only reluctantly put it back in his inner pocket.

'When will I finally learn this Magic and become a Mage?'

He glanced out the window. It was getting late. Lin Mo stood up, took all his money, and decided it was time to go out and have a look around.

The nights in Roland Town were quiet. Most commoners were exhausted after a day of labor, and they couldn't afford the expensive lamp oil, so they went to bed early.

But a few streets were exceptions.

Here, the clamor of voices still filled the air. The shops on both sides of the street were still open, with vendors constantly hawking their wares.

Most of the pedestrians coming and going on the street were carrying weapons and had sturdy builds; a single glance told you they were not Ordinary people.

That's right, this was a street specially set up for Adventurers. The prosperity of this area would often last late into the night.

Lin Mo felt refreshed as he walked out of a shop, as if he had been reborn. He gave a big stretch.

The rumor he had overheard in the Association hall was right. The massage parlor at No. 88 Traveler's Street was truly one of a kind.

After more than half an hour of massage, it felt like all the tension in his body had been kneaded away, leaving him feeling completely relaxed. The Dwarf ladies in the shop didn't look like much, each one stout and brawny, but the strength in their hands was spot on. They put in real effort and didn't cut any corners.

After this indulgence, Lin Mo had a hearty dinner: steak and bread, served with a thick seafood soup. It wasn't cheap, but it tasted great, and the portions were generous.

Any shop that could gain the widespread approval of Adventurers and stay in business here had to be skilled at what they do.

Next, Lin Mo wandered the street for a while longer, taking in the sights and sounds of this other world and enjoying the free life of an Adventurer.

In the end, he didn't follow the large crowds of Adventurers to Flower Cluster Street. Mainly, he wasn't sure if certain... unspeakable diseases existed in this world, and he didn't dare to take the risk.

Besides, just casually giving himself away like that didn't feel right.

In this regard, Lin Mo was on the conservative side. Otherwise, with his looks, it's not like he'd never had the chance.

On his way back to the inn, he happened to run into Evan and Millian. The young couple seemed to have had a great time out as well. Millian was carrying some food and looked to be in a good mood, while Evan held her other hand, grinning like a fool.

After asking, he learned they weren't planning on taking any missions tomorrow. Instead, they were going to rest for a while.

They had earned a lot of money this time, so they wouldn't have any financial pressure for a long while. Uncle Bain also wanted to spend more time with his family, and with the loss of a team member, they needed to consider recruiting someone new.

He figured they would rest for at least two or three days; maybe even a whole week without going out.

This was a very normal situation. At the end of the day, being an Adventurer was just a Profession. If you gave them an endless supply of money, ninety-nine percent of them would choose to retire on the spot.

But Lin Mo was clearly not one of them.

'My goal for tomorrow is to first get Slashing to Level 3 and test my theory on what Bain said about Skills.'
