Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: What I'm Buying Isn't Clothes, It's My Former Dream

It was late in the morning!

Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, shining on Su Chen's face.

Feeling the warmth, Su Chen groggily opened his eyes. He saw the bright sun outside and stretched lazily.

"Mmm... Nothing beats waking up on your own."

After dawdling in bed for a while longer, Su Chen reluctantly climbed out.

He would have liked to stay in bed longer, but he couldn't ignore the hunger pangs his stomach kept sending him.

After a quick rinse, he prepared to change and go out to eat. After all, the fridge at home was completely empty, and he didn't know how to cook anyway.

'Looks like... I'll have to find a professional housekeeper.'

As for cleaning, Su Chen remembered Chen Mengyan telling him that his apartment came with a professional cleaning service that could come over whenever needed.

The thought immediately brought to mind Chen Mengyan's stunning figure—as bountiful as ripe fruit on slender branches.

To say Su Chen didn't have any thoughts about Chen Mengyan... would be impossible. He was a normal man, after all!

Who doesn't like beautiful women!

Especially someone like Chen Mengyan... She had the body, and she had the looks.

And with Chen Mengyan's blatant hints from before, how could Su Chen not understand?

He might be inexperienced, but he wasn't clueless.

If he, Su Chen, dared to say the word today, he was sure Chen Mengyan would be climbing into his bed tonight.

But in the end, Su Chen suppressed the stirring within him.

When it came to this... Su Chen was both expectant and afraid. After all, he was already 23... and still a pure-hearted virgin!

Sighing softly, Su Chen stopped overthinking it. 'Just let nature take its course.'

Looking at the few cheap clothes in his walk-in closet, a wry smile crossed Su Chen's face. The oldest of them had been with him for over four years, bought online right after he first arrived in Shanghai.

Even the newest piece of clothing had been purchased a year ago.

He found a relatively fresh-looking outfit, put it on, and stood in front of the mirror.

'Not bad!' Su Chen had the kind of looks that grew on you. He wasn't exceptionally handsome, just a cut above the average person.

"System!"

[Host: Su Chen]

[Junior God of Wealth: 2,020/1,000,000]

[Wealth: 90,086 yuan (Pending withdrawal)]

Su Chen took a look. The system's experience points had increased by 2,020. Two thousand was from last night's dinner, and the remaining 20 was from the parking fee.

His wealth had also accumulated to over ninety thousand yuan after one day. Including his own savings, he had just a little over two hundred thousand in total.

With a thought, he immediately withdrew the ninety thousand from the system.

The next second, his phone chimed with a notification for the deposit.

He glanced at it casually, stuffed the phone in his pocket, grabbed his keys, and headed out.

The National Gold Mansion wasn't far from One Horizon; both were part of the Lujiazui commercial district.

Su Chen didn't go to luxury stores like Gucci or Hermes. He wasn't interested in those kinds of luxury brands at all.

A total IQ tax.

After casually strolling around the first floor, he found a men's clothing store that looked pretty good—Brunello Cucinelli.

Su Chen glanced at the name but didn't recognize the brand, so he strode right in.

The store looked quite large, with a full six sales associates, but there were very few customers. Including Su Chen, there were only three people in total.

A few sales associates at the front counter glanced at Su Chen. One of the older ones said, "Xiaoli, you've only been here for a couple of days. Go help that young man. Get some practice."

Xiaoli was taken aback. She had been working here for almost a week, and there were rarely many customers. Usually, the other associates snapped up any that did come in.

They always used the excuse: 'Xiaoli, you're new and don't know much. What if you offend a customer!'

She never expected the sun to rise from the west—the store manager was actually assigning a customer to her.

Despite her surprise, Xiaoli said excitedly, "Okay, Manager."

With that, she quickly walked toward Su Chen.

After Xiaoli left, another associate asked in confusion, "Manager, why did you let Xiaoli handle him?"

The manager chuckled. "What? You think a young guy like that can afford anything here? Look at what he's wearing... all cheap street-stall stuff. The whole outfit is worth two or three hundred yuan at most."

She paused, then continued, "And did you notice? He's not wearing any accessories, his hair is messy, and his skin is a bit tanned. But his build is pretty good. It suggests he does some kind of outdoor manual labor!"

"I'm guessing he's either a delivery guy or works on a construction site."

Hearing the manager's analysis, the others all looked as if they understood completely.

Meanwhile, Su Chen had just spotted a few nice polo shirts when he saw a young sales associate hurrying toward him in a light jog.

"Sir, hello! Welcome to BC. I'm Xiaoli, and it's my pleasure to assist you!" she said, her voice tinged with nervousness.

Seeing this, Su Chen gave a faint smile.

"Hello. These clothes look pretty nice. Could you put together a few complete outfits for me to try on?" Su Chen said, pointing to a few items he liked.

"Ah~" Xiaoli was surprised by his words.

"What? Is there a problem?" Su Chen asked, raising an eyebrow.

Hearing Su Chen, Xiaoli quickly waved her hands. "N-No problem at all! Sir, please have a seat. I'll put them together for you right away!"

Xiaoli used a tape measure to get Su Chen's measurements. After walking a circle around him to get a better look, she began selecting the pieces.

She was very fast. Before Su Chen had to wait long, several complete outfits, including shoes, were laid out before him.

"Sir, what do you think? Are there any colors you don't like?"

Su Chen glanced over them. They all looked quite good, and he nodded in satisfaction.

Seeing his satisfied expression, Xiaoli gestured toward the fitting rooms nearby. "Sir, here are our fitting rooms. You can go try them on!"

"Alright!" Su Chen grabbed one outfit and walked into the fitting room.

They say clothes make the man!

When Su Chen changed and came out of the fitting room, he was stunned by his own reflection in the mirror.

If Su Chen's looks were an 80 out of 100 before, they were at least an 85 now. If he tidied up his messy hair, he'd look even more handsome!

Su Chen stood before the mirror, looking left and right, and nodded in satisfaction.

"Hey, Xiaoli, I won't be trying on the rest of the outfits!"

A flash of disappointment crossed Xiaoli's eyes when she heard this, but she maintained her smile and said, "Alright, sir."

She then prepared to put the other outfits and shoes away, which left Su Chen, who was standing to the side, momentarily stunned.

"Uh... I meant I'll take all of them!"

To Xiaoli, Su Chen's words were like music from the heavens. She exclaimed excitedly, "Really?"

Her outburst instantly drew the attention of several people.

Xiaoli realized she'd been overly excited. After apologizing to Su Chen, she gathered the clothes and hurried to the front counter.

When the store manager learned that Su Chen had bought six outfits, she was completely dumbfounded.

'Is this the new trend for rich kids? The "pauper edition" of playing the humble big shot?'

The outfits cost Su Chen a total of 120,000 yuan, which averaged out to around 20,000 yuan per set of clothes and shoes.

Su Chen looked at the dozen or so shopping bags and felt a bit troubled.

As if sensing his predicament, Xiaoli sidled up to Su Chen and said, "Sir, we can deliver them to your home for you."

"Alright." After leaving his phone number and address, Su Chen strode out of the store in his new clothes.

Meanwhile, Xiaoli stood there in a daze, holding a piece of paper and staring at Su Chen's retreating back.

"Xiaoli, what are you standing there in a daze for! Hurry up and get those clothes delivered." The store manager frowned, thinking Xiaoli was just so happy about the sale that she hadn't recovered her senses.

Hearing this, Xiaoli turned her head. "Manager, do you think all rich people are really low-key?"

"Hmm?" The manager looked at Xiaoli with some surprise, waiting for her to continue.

"That handsome guy from before, the one in the simple clothes? He lives in One Horizon—a place worth over a hundred million yuan!"

With that, Xiaoli carefully tucked the piece of paper into her pocket. She glanced at the dumbfounded manager, a flicker of a smile in her eyes.
