Xiao Bao performed quite well, passing the test with flying colors!
Day five of the doomsday countdown.
Chen Momo checked the supplies in her spatial dimension. The most basic daily necessities—pots, pans, bowls, plates, gas stoves, coal stoves, electric heaters, electric blankets, ice makers, refrigerators, solar panels, iPads, multi-port charging cables, and flashlights—were all in place. Cotton-padded clothes and pants, winter shoes and socks, scarves, gloves, towels, soap, quilts, and mattresses were also fully prepared.
Five hundred barrels of water were neatly stacked inside, alongside a hundred barrels of gasoline, a hundred barrels of motor oil, and a hundred barrels of diesel. Large quantities of lamb skewers, steamed buns, snail rice noodles, french fries, potato chips, and cola were stored away, as well as significant amounts of various metals.
In addition, Chen Momo had stored all kinds of tools, including knives, hemp rope, bags, wheelbarrows, shovels, hammers, saws, and axes. There were also various medicines, along with pepper spray and homemade chili water. Taking inventory of the items in her spatial dimension, Chen Momo's heart gradually settled. Better safe than sorry—that was the truth for everything.
After a crazy shopping spree, Chen Momo had just over thirty thousand yuan left in her bank account. Within these five days, she had to spend every last cent of this remaining thirty thousand!
"Son, Mommy is taking you out for KFC today!" Chen Momo suddenly announced.
Xiao Bao ran over excitedly and hugged her. "Really, Mommy? Are you really taking Xiao Bao to eat KFC?"
In just ten short days, Xiao Bao had already eaten KFC twice. He was practically dizzy with happiness!
Chen Momo smiled. "Of course." Doomsday was fast approaching; she wanted to let her son have another meal of his favorite food!
The mother and son drove to a nearby KFC restaurant. Chen Momo ordered her son his favorite spicy chicken wings and a cola.
Watching her son eat with such relish, Chen Momo suddenly thought of a question—why didn't she store more burgers and chicken wings in her spatial dimension? Even though she would limit how often her son ate junk food, having it was better than not!
So Chen Momo immediately reactivated her shopping mode, ordering a hundred burgers, a hundred colas, and a hundred portions of chicken wings. Afterward, she took her son to a bubble tea shop. She bought a hundred cups of the most popular flavors from various shops and stored them piping hot in her spatial dimension.
Mulling it over, Chen Momo suddenly realized she had forgotten to buy one thing—books! Her son was right at the age where he thirsted for knowledge. If there were no books, he would be missing out on mental nourishment! Thus, she ordered a complete set of classic literature, along with textbooks ranging from elementary school all the way to university.
Next, she drove her son around the surrounding major shopping malls to see if there was anything else she could add to her supplies. In the process, she bought quite a few miscellaneous items. Once she was done, her money was practically gone. Chen Momo spent every last remaining bit of cash on vegetables and fruits, hoarding them all in her spatial dimension.
Chen Momo carefully went over the inventory list of her supplies one more time while also looking up numerous doomsday survival guides online. Everything she needed to stockpile was now fully prepared. The next step was to simply stay at home, avoid going out, and wait peacefully for the apocalypse to arrive and for the refugee bases to be built!
Day three of the countdown.
The weather started to feel a bit different today. What should have been furnace-like heat suddenly turned cool and refreshing. In the group chat for Building 5, residents who were unaware of the truth began celebrating the change in weather.
"It's finally not so hot anymore!"
"If only the weather could be like this every day!"
"Keep dreaming. It'll be scorching again in a day or two. It's not like you guys don't know this damn weather in Han City."
Chen Momo opened an online forum, where some strange discussions were also popping up. Many people were complaining about discovering massive cockroaches in their homes recently—cockroaches larger than anything they had ever seen. The attached picture showed a photo of a disgusting, giant cockroach. Its size was a full five times larger than a normal one.
The user replies below were a mixed bag; some expressed shock, while others claimed the cockroaches had mutated.
Then, someone else mentioned that the chickens they raised at home had all flown out of their coop overnight and couldn't be found despite a long search. Another person posted a picture, saying they had witnessed a massive migration of rats while driving across a road. The attached photo below showed a swarm of rats, both big and small, lining up to cross the street.
Similar posts like these were appearing in large numbers on forums from all over the country.
