Sylvia Sterling said, "Very few elders would dislike you."
That only made Stella Sterling feel worse.
'If that's a lie, does that mean the truth is that very few elders *would* like me?'
Stella gave her sister a complicated look. "That's a painful lie..."
Sylvia laughed. "It's the truth."
"You're just trying to make me feel better."
Stella hung her head, dejected.
Ever since her run-in with Walter Rhodes that morning, her mood had been unavoidably shaken.
Even though the man hadn't said a word.
But in their brief encounter, Stella could still sense Mr. Rhodes's indifference and coldness toward her.
It was a stark contrast to Mrs. Rhodes's attitude.
Just then, Sylvia lifted her sister's chin, forcing her to look up.
"I'm not just trying to make you feel better. First, tell me what happened."
Stella never held anything back from her sister.
She briefly recounted the morning's events, her spirits sinking lower the more she spoke.
