「Half an hour later.」
Stella Sterling changed out of her restrictive evening gown and removed her makeup. Then, Roman Rhodes led her to the dining room.
Awaiting her on the dining table were fish maw congee and several light side dishes.
It was a late-night snack Mr. Bell had prepared especially for her.
"Did anything interesting happen at the banquet?"
Across the table, Roman Rhodes handed the bowl of congee to Stella and asked in a low voice.
Stella tilted her head with a smile. "Such as?"
His fingertips tapped the table. "Diana Donovan."
'Just as I thought.'
Roman Rhodes never brought things up without a reason.
If he was asking, it meant he already had a good idea of what happened.
Stella chose her words carefully, giving him a downplayed account of the events.
When she was done, she concluded in a casual tone, "It was just a minor spat. Nothing serious."
