Roman Rhodes cupped the back of her neck and squeezed gently. "Don't worry about it. The price Kevin is paying is far from over."
Stella Sterling said he had it coming.
After a while, night began to fall outside the window.
Stella Sterling was curled up on the sofa, too lazy to move.
After replying to a message on his phone, the man looked up to see her staring blankly into space, lost in thought.
"What are you thinking about?"
Stella Sterling tilted her shoulders, leaning most of her weight into Roman Rhodes's arms. "I was thinking... but I'm not sure if I should say it."
The man's thumb caressed her cheek. "Go on. You can tell me."
"Genetics are a strange thing." Stella Sterling's eyes darted about. "Do you think some bad habits can be inherited?"
"Like what?"
"Like... hmm..."
Stella Sterling considered how to phrase her question.
'I can't just come out and say, 'Your parents are separated and your cousin cheated. Do you have those genes?''
'How presumptuous.'
