Mrs. Phelps shouted defiantly.
"What happened?" Holly Sinclair lowered her eyes to look at her daughter.
Although she had a pretty good idea, she needed to know the details.
"Harvey Phelps said I'm a fatherless bastard," Candice Sinclair answered truthfully, her voice sullen.
Holly Sinclair's face instantly turned to ice.
The already tense atmosphere tightened abruptly.
Mr. Phelps knew how to read a room. Furious, he shot his clueless wife a glare before quickly turning back to Holly Sinclair with an apologetic smile. "I'm so sorry, Miss Sinclair. This is all our fault—"
Mrs. Phelps doted on her son. Knowing he had been beaten up by Candice Sinclair, she was already seething. Now, seeing her husband's spineless behavior made her even more furious.
So she started ranting recklessly, "Fault? What fault? What did Harvey say that was wrong? Candice Sinclair is a fatherless bastard—"
