The tense silence remained unbroken.
But just then, the power suddenly went out.
Megan Kane frowned slightly, wondering how a hospital could lose power.
"I'll go check," Jason Forrester said, still holding the USB drive his assistant had just given him.
That USB drive contained the evidence.
"Maybe you shouldn't go. I'm afraid of the dark."
"The power should be back on soon, right?"
Megan Kane figured a hospital this large couldn't possibly lose power for very long.
It probably just overloaded the circuits and tripped a breaker.
"I didn't think you'd be afraid of the dark."
"In that case, I won't bother going out."
Jason Forrester had just turned to walk back when the object in his hand suddenly vanished.
He whipped his head around in disbelief, but all he saw was a figure hastily retreating.
His hand was empty. There was nothing there.
"Looks like someone just snatched the USB drive with the evidence."
"I'm sure that's what I saw."
