Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Unhinged and Insane

Megan Kane wanted to go back now.

'Anyone who wants this chance to transmigrate into a book can have it!'

"President Forrester, you're so handsome. Why don't you turn around and check out the girls behind you?"

"Something feels off... She's bleeding more and more."

Megan Kane was genuinely afraid someone would die. By then, it would be too late to fix things.

A wicked smile played on Jason Forrester's lips. "That's right. If I were to slice open your flesh, you'd bleed more and more."

"Isn't that obvious to even a fool?"

"Son of a bitch. I seriously don't know if you're the crazy one, or if I am."

Megan Kane couldn't take it anymore. She landed a heavy slap across Jason Forrester's face.

Blair White's voice was faint and broken, her eyelids so heavy she couldn't open them.

She didn't know why her vision was fading to black so quickly.

"Blair, Blair!"

'Holy shit, you're a main character in the story! You can't just die on me!'

'I don't want this psycho male lead anyway.'

"What are you doing just standing there gawking like an idiot? Your future wife is about to die!"

Megan Kane felt like she was dying of anxiety.

But this was a classic case of the onlookers being more anxious than the person involved.

Jason Forrester just stood there, unfazed, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth.

"Well, well, wifey. You're just like all the other women, using every trick in the book to get close to me."

"But I'll admit, you've succeeded. You have piqued my interest."

"But don't even think about walking out of here. Ever."

"I'm going to slowly, thoroughly dissect you."

Jason Forrester's gaze was predatory. He didn't spare Blair White a single glance.

His eyes were fixed entirely on Megan Kane.

A chill ran down Megan Kane's spine.

'And my so-called "best friend"?'

'I still can't get in touch with her.'

'Who knows where the hell Rowan Monroe has disappeared to.'

'I haven't seen any sign of her all day.'

'She's not answering her phone, texts, or any messages.'

"Keep staring at me, and I'll gouge your eyes out and preserve them as specimens. You wanna bet?"

Megan Kane was forcing herself to sound tough.

But it was just a bluff, a fragile facade that could be shattered with a single poke.

Jason Forrester didn't say a word, but the iron chains in his hand JANGLED loudly.

"Wh-what the hell do you want? Let me tell you, false imprisonment is illegal!"

"Jason Forrester, I suggest you be rational. Think about all the people at your company who depend on you. If you go to prison, they'll all starve!"

"And your family... with so many people, who's as brilliant as you? If you go to prison, think how heartbroken everyone in your family will be."

'If I could do it all over again, I would never, ever provoke this psycho.'

'I should have just stuck to the original plot. Now I've derailed everything, and I'm totally screwed.'

"Oh? That doesn't change the fact that I'm going to tie you up."

"I don't know about illegal or not, but why don't you try your phone? See if you can call anyone."

"Megan Kane, you can be so stupid sometimes."

Jason Forrester licked the corner of his mouth.

Megan Kane glanced at the still-unconscious Blair White at her feet. 'Forget about saving her,' she thought. 'I need to save myself and run.'

'To hell with the female lead, to hell with his precious first love. Nothing is more important than my own life.'

"Spirits of heaven, spirits of earth, whatever evil is in you, get out!"

"Get out! Back! Back! Back!"

Completely helpless, Megan Kane could only resort to chanting spells to ward off evil.

She had no idea if it would work, but it was a desperate last resort.

Maybe it actually worked.

Jason Forrester stopped in his tracks, his brow furrowed.

"Cousin, you aren't exactly welcome here. What brings you over so suddenly?"

Liam Forrester wouldn't have set foot in this house if he could help it, but the Old Man had insisted.

He really couldn't be bothered to deal with this lunatic.

"Grandfather wants you at his birthday banquet. Stop wasting time."

"By the way, Blair White came by looking for you. Where is she?"

Before Jason Forrester could answer,

Liam's gaze fell upon Blair White, lying motionless in a pool of her own blood.

"Are you fucking insane? Do you have any idea what the relationship is between the White Family and ours? We've been friends for generations!"

"Holy shit."

It was the first time in his life that the ever-refined Liam Forrester had ever cursed so crudely.

He truly didn't understand what the Old Man was thinking. Why hadn't he sent this psycho abroad instead of leaving him here to stir up trouble?

Never mind all the trouble he caused the family; the company alone had an endless stream of cases to handle because of his negative press.

"This has nothing to do with me."

"It was her doing. If you're going to blame someone, blame her."

"Two women, fighting over me out of jealousy. Is it a crime to be this handsome?"

"If so, I apologize. But it's a crime I can't do anything about."

Jason Forrester said it all with a completely straight face, not a hint of embarrassment in his voice.

Megan Kane's eyes widened. 'The shameless are truly invincible, aren't they?'

"Don't you cringe hearing yourself talk?"

"I watched with my own two eyes as you kicked her and sent her flying into the edge of that flowerbed."

"You also said all that disgusting stuff about skinning people alive and gouging out their eyes."

"And now you're denying it?"

"Let me tell you, you should have some shame!"

Megan Kane didn't hold back at all.

She laid out everything she had witnessed, all at once.

"Hahaha, so I kicked her and sent her flying? Then why didn't I do the same to you?"

"Is it because we're closer?"

"I don't even know where you crawled out from. You just appeared in my house out of nowhere. I could have you arrested for trespassing right now."

The smile on Jason Forrester's face grew even more manic, and his eyes held a clear warning.

He was thinking that if she were smart, she'd shut her mouth right now.

"Holy shit, you're the king of psychos! No, I can't let this go. If I don't report you for this, I'll never be able to live with myself!"

"I'm telling you, kill me if you've got the guts! Because as long as I'm alive, I swear I'll drag you to court!"

"And I am not wrong about what happened here today!"

Megan Kane had assumed Liam Forrester would back her up.

But she never expected to see him stroking his chin, contemplating who should take the blame.

"You're right," Liam said. "This must be her doing."

Liam wasn't trying to protect his cousin; he was thinking that the friendship between the White and Forrester families could not be allowed to rupture.

Especially not on a day of celebration. Besides, Megan Kane was the only one left to pin it on.

"Son of a bitch! If I'm going down, I'm taking you all with me!"

Megan Kane felt that if she didn't lose her mind right then and there, she'd be stuck as the scapegoat for life.

She grabbed a shovel from beside the flowerbed and swung it right at Liam Forrester's head.

He collapsed on the spot.

"I... I didn't even hit him that hard."

Megan Kane was completely stunned.

"That shovel is one of my experiments. I weighted it with extra iron. I didn't realize you were so strong."

Jason Forrester's tone was detached, as if the two people now lying in the courtyard had absolutely nothing to do with him.
