He stepped back, allowing the carriage to proceed.
Claude stood a short distance away, his gaze cutting through the crowd to rest on Henry's carriage.
He had watched Henry grow up. The young man, who had always been clever and perceptive, wasn't telling the truth. But Claude also understood that if Henry didn't want to talk, there was no use in pressing him.
He decided to find an opportunity to speak with Henry in private. Perhaps he could learn more without overstepping his bounds.
The carriage ambled forward. Henry closed his eyes, leaning back against the soft cushions.
His body needed rest, but his mind could find no peace.
