Chapter 1 - Romantic but emotional story

Title: The Light of the Last Evening

A little away from the chaos of the city, beside a quiet river, there was a small village—that was where Arnab and Meghla first met.

Arnab was a city boy. A busy life, a corporate job, constantly chasing time—his days moved like a machine. But one day, out of nowhere, he decided to leave everything behind for a while and came to this village in search of peace.

Meghla, on the other hand, was a village girl. Simple, yet there was an unusual calm in her eyes. She loved sitting by the river and painting. On her canvas appeared the sky, the river, and the unspoken emotions of people.

First MeetingThat evening, Arnab walked to the riverbank. The sun was setting, spreading a soft orange glow everywhere. In that light, he saw Meghla for the first time.

She was sitting and painting. Her hair danced gently in the breeze, and her eyes were completely lost in her canvas.

Without realizing, Arnab asked,

"What are you painting?"

Meghla looked up, slightly startled. Then she smiled softly and said,

"I'm trying to paint what can't be seen."

Arnab was surprised.

"What do you mean?"

"Feelings," Meghla replied.

And that was the beginning of their story.

Growing CloserEvery afternoon, Arnab started coming to the riverbank. Meghla was always there. Sometimes they talked, sometimes they just sat in silence.

Arnab spoke about his city life—its busyness, competition, and exhaustion. Meghla listened, and sometimes she would say,

"Do you ever stop and take time for yourself?"

Arnab would laugh,

"I don't have the time."

Meghla would look at the river and say,

"Look at the river… it never stops, yet it remains calm."

Arnab slowly realized that Meghla had a depth within her—something he had never found among thousands in the city.

The Beginning of LoveOne day, it suddenly started raining. They both took shelter under a large tree.

Meghla laughed and said,

"You're a city boy—aren't you afraid of getting drenched in the rain?"

Arnab stepped a little closer and said,

"When I'm with you, I'm not afraid of anything."

Meghla fell silent. There was a different kind of light in her eyes.

That day, for the first time, they felt something more than just companionship.

The Fear of IncompletenessDays passed quickly. Arnab knew he had to return to the city. His work, his responsibilities—everything was calling him back.

One day, he told Meghla,

"I might have to leave soon."

Meghla's hand paused.

"When?"

"Very soon."

Silence filled the air.

Meghla softly said,

"Everyone leaves someday… don't they?"

Arnab understood—there was a hidden pain behind those words.

The Last EveningThe day before Arnab left, they sat by the river again.

The sun was setting—just like the first day.

Arnab said,

"I will come back."

Meghla smiled faintly,

"Everyone says that."

"I really will," Arnab insisted.

Meghla handed him a painting.

"This is for you."

In the painting, two people sat by the river. The sun was setting, but their shadows had merged into one.

Arnab stared at it in silence.

GoodbyeThe next day, Arnab left.

Meghla sat by the river, just like every day—but this time, no one was beside her.

The wind was the same, the river was the same, the sun was the same…

Only the person was missing.

The ReturnSix months later.

One evening, a man stood again by the same river.

Arnab.

He looked around. Everything was the same—but Meghla wasn't there.

He asked an old villager,

"Where is Meghla?"

The old man paused and said,

"She went to the city… to chase her dreams."

Arnab felt a quiet ache in his chest.

The Final LetterThe old man handed him a letter.

"She left this for you… in case you ever came back."

With trembling hands, Arnab opened it.

"Arnab,

If you're reading this, I know you came back.

I didn't wait—because I believe love is not about waiting, but about moving forward.

But you taught me how to feel.

If we ever meet again, maybe we'll start anew.

—Meghla"

Arnab looked up at the sky.

The sun was setting again.

Not the End…Some stories never truly end.

They simply pause—like the light of the last evening.

Maybe someday, in another city,

Arnab and Meghla will meet again.

And then—

Their story will begin all over again. 💛
