The more Joyce thought about it, the sadder she became. She cried for a while, leaning against Silas. Once she'd calmed down, she sat up straight and dabbed at her tears with a tissue. "I'm sorry. That movie was just such a tearjerker."
"It's just... for a moment there, I suddenly felt like life is pretty pointless."
"I'm sorry you had to see me like this tonight. I've kept you up."
"It's just a movie. It's not that serious," Silas said.
"It's not just the movie. I was suddenly reminded of some sad and frustrating people and situations that are out of my control."
"Then that's even more pointless."
"Is there no one and nothing that can upset you?" Joyce asked, curious. He always seemed exceptionally rational and calm.
Silas chuckled softly. "That depends on the person. Some people are worth it, but some simply don't deserve it."
"Then what do you do about the people who don't deserve it?"
