Summer Thorne had been keeping an eye on the commotion, but she'd just lowered her head to reply to a message. A moment later, she heard a series of sounds, put down her phone, and turned to look.
The moment she turned, she clearly saw the dazed, unfocused look in Milo Irving's eyes—and the way he instantly snapped back to alertness the second he recognized her face.
"Hello, Mr. Irving."
Milo Irving had already composed himself. He gave her a single glance before resuming his phone call and heading for the door.
But he had only taken a couple of steps when someone hurried out from inside and called after him, "Milo, Grandpa wants you to come upstairs."
Milo Irving stopped in his tracks, turned, and headed back inside.
He didn't say a word to Summer Thorne, nor did he spare her another glance.
