Mason Crawford scoffed again. "And you," he said, looking at her, "you clearly have a way to deal with this danger, but you refuse to share it. Is that fair?"
Laura Thorne ignored his taunt. After a moment, she said, "You mentioned before that your father is ill and you hoped Ava could go abroad with him for his treatment... Is that still possible?"
Mason Crawford hadn't expected her to bring it up. He paused, his tone still sharp. "What do you think?"
"Please, figure something out," Laura Thorne said. "You know her better than I do. You know how to get her to leave..."
Mason Crawford's eyes remained fixed on her as he considered her words. "So this is your solution?" he asked. "When you're fully aware of a threat, your answer isn't to solve the problem, but to have her run away from it?"
