The sound of a ringing phone roused Summer Thorne, and she quickly opened her eyes.
The caregiver poked her head out of the bathroom, intending to see if the noise had woken her, but found Summer already sitting up and answering the phone. "Hello?"
The person on the other end of the line must have been important for her to sit up to answer.
However, Summer's tone was calm, betraying no hint of intimacy.
"You awake?"
Timothy York's voice came from the other end, tinged with a faint rasp.
Summer hummed in acknowledgment, then said, "What about you? Did you just finish work?"
Timothy was quiet for a moment before saying, "And how did you know I was busy?"
"I heard," Summer replied.
The line went quiet for a moment before Timothy asked, "Are you feeling any better?"
"It was never anything serious," Summer said. "I'm going to ask the doctor. I might even be discharged today."
"Don't push yourself," Timothy said. "I'll come see you when I have time."
