Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Always There

The prolonged confinement left Wen Qian depressed. What truly broke her was that her adoptive parents, trying to keep her from speaking out, had cut off all communication devices in her room. Even the windows were only opened at set times.

When she closed her eyes, all she could see were the imprisoned Beastmen. Anxiety and self-blame began to consume her. 'I need to talk to someone,' she thought, only to remember she had already driven away the gentle Little Black Snake.

The once-gentle girl grew withdrawn and irritable. She started crying day and night, would fly into a rage and smash the bowls the maid had just brought in, and tried every method she could think of to provoke her adoptive parents.

Eventually, she even contemplated suicide.
